Hello,
I'm new to the forum. I plan on entering the One Synth Challenge. I think it's amazing what this forum is doing here by holding these contests.

Okay, I made a quick build to see if I can fix the issue about selecting instruments and generally the comboboxes which misbehave :/ Also somebody mentioned patches are not loaded correctly if one is missing? should work now, too.
Bear in mind I did not touch the source code in over a year I might have made things worse XD
But I will get back on track soon
Let me know what you think:

Windows only for now, but I will create builds for all platforms once I get the feeling I produce valuable output

Hi,
After many months either just lurking, being too slow / too late or not participating for any other number of reasons, I finally decided to take part in this nice competition.
My name is Manuel, a.k.a. "One Short Moment", and I hope I can contribute something worthwhile to this community.
Speaking of contributing - let me skip the introduction speech and try to say something productive:
Observations:
- Picking a preset from the list / combo box now seems to work flawlessly
- I noticed that presets that didn't "move" (in the center / red waveform display) before, now actually DO move... all the time, and quite erratically it seems.
- additionally, the SOUND is also somewhat different. Hard to describe, but the new version sounds as if there would be some kind of non-synced/free running "phaser" being added. (If it helps, I could try to make a audio or video demo comparing the two...)
Anyway, thanks again!

Great! Thanks for the new build. I just tested the one for 64bit (in Cubase 8.5 on Windows 8.1)payne_bc wrote: Bear in mind I did not touch the source code in over a year I might have made things worse XD

The moving is actually a new feature. If you set the modulation parameter to anything except 0, the wavetables will be continuously in motion (which you can hear very well I believe) and I tried visualizing that. Maybe that proves to be a bad idea since it is distracting but I wanted to try it.OneShortMoment wrote: - I noticed that presets that didn't "move" (in the center / red waveform display) before, now actually DO move... all the time, and quite erratically it seems.

I will look into the sound differences, those are not supposed to happen

Tunefish4 chrases Ableton Live 9 32-bit on my pc, I can almost use it in energyXT but the presets are not saved. The new build kindly provided can't load in my venerable audio PC, which runs Windows XP, bj can we use Tunefish3 as alternative? Thanks

My copy of Live won't even recognize it. (I have the same problem with Helm).payne_bc wrote:Okay, I made a quick build to see if I can fix the issue about selecting instruments and generally the comboboxes which misbehave :/ Also somebody mentioned patches are not loaded correctly if one is missing? should work now, too.

Good question. How different is Tunefish 3?liqih wrote:Tunefish4 chrases Ableton Live 9 32-bit on my pc, I can almost use it in energyXT but the presets are not saved. Mostly in the oscillator, but the overall sound and features are very comparable. Anyway as update I was able to save Tunefish4 presets in energyXT 32-bit clicking copy, paste and then save. Not sure how realiable would be in a full project anyway. Still some menus are not always selected. And I haven't tried automation yet. The synth looks powerful but a bit scary for the compatibility issues.bjporter wrote:Good question. I'll skip this challenge because Tunefish goes wild on CPU sometimes in FL 12. It is GUI that is causing the problem, because when you close it everything's fine. You don't see it in FL Studio's CPU meter, but when you use Task Manager and seeing that FL is using 5-6 times more CPU than Tunefish's engine is using to create the sound. So, it's GUI that is causing the problem somehow.
Since the point is to use only one synth, I don't want to start something and then somewhere in the middle to be forced to quit because the way things are now I can't predict how everything will go when I start adding more and more instances of Tunefish.
I've been aware of this since 4.01 version came out and that's why I only tested Tunefish and uninstalled it.
You can even see the same thing in Reaper, but not so drastic by switching on/off Tunefish's GUI and looking at Task Manager and seeing the slight changes in CPU usage.

Ah, I see... I still had your Readme.txt in mind where you wrote something like "although with modulation > 0 it should move, but it doesn't"... so I wasn't expecting that to change.payne_bc wrote: The moving is actually a new feature. But you're right, generally speaking this actually is a good idea because it represents what really happens.
Is it distracting? Mmmh, maybe, because it moves / "flickers" so fast...
(Besides: It seems that the movement doesn't really change that much (or maybe not at all) with higher modulation values. That is, to me at least it looks identical whether the value is very low (e.g. 3) or very high (e.g. 99). Might also have something to do with the draw / refresh rate of that graph... just guessing.)
Okay, I will create and upload a short demo then... I can't exactly tell you when I'll find the time, though.I will look into the sound differences, those are not supposed to happenIf you can make a demo that would be most helpful
Thanks!
I got two quite long days ahead of me, so... maybe tomorrow, but could also be Tuesday evening / night.

...And Live crashes and the project is unrecoverable. Sigh...
That would be the second time in two days, so I don't think my old system will be able to handle this synth. It's too bad because when it's working you can coax some great sounds out of it.

That's what I thought. Tunefish3 and 4 are VERY similar.liqih wrote: Mostly in the oscillator, but the overall sound and features are very comparable. How about we do a vote. Let's say 10 people.
Should Tunefish 3 be allowed? Yea or Nay?
I'll start off with a Yea
