I've got a pretty good handle on producing so far (At least I'm way more knowledgeable than I was 10 years ago), but now I want to focus on getting a recording setup for live performance capture. Who knows I'll more than likely end up with a modular synthesizer or something :hihi:

Next on the list of studio purchases is a 8-string guitar though.

Well apart from me sucking at keyboard and sequencing I think I'm "ok" at producing what I hear in my head. I know how to use most forms of synthesis now, but now I want to get a 8-string guitar and start jamming..

Yeah, fair enough. My post was rather in reply to this:
fluffy_little_something wrote:Why do people who know how to play a "real" instrument even start to make synth-based music in the first place? If I played x well, I would probably be on tour with some band or even a studio musician if I were excellent at it.

As a contrabasson player, I only go on contrabasson forums, and I only listen to music exclusively made with contrabassons...

Electronic synth based music ... well ...

Contrabassoon players get all the hot chicks.
They make dirty low noises.

No woman likes my piccolo skills

I play bass, piano/keys, and some guitar and I make synth-based music that combines these instruments (plus vocals). I also play most of the synth parts, rather than penciling them in. It doesn't have to be and either/or proposition.

Now, if only I was a better drummer... :help:

That's what the pads on midi controllers are there for :hihi:

I'm the exact opposite. I play bass guitar and grew up playing in garage bands, but I find rock music more and more stale as time progresses.

I appreciate the OP's honesty. I think sometimes when we feel like the music isn't flowing, there's a reason. Not necessarily that you *have* to thrown your computers/synths out the window. Sometimes it's a sign that you're at an intersection, looking for something new. Something that may or may not have electronic music included.

For myself, what I like about synths (hardware or software, it mattereth not) is that they give us access to sound possibilities that no other instrument can do. Rather than trying to emulate what already exists, I get most involved when I find sounds that I've never heard anywhere before.

And, the types of music that can be made: dance, trance, "new age," rock, jazz, etc, etc. Although traditional instruments have their advantages, synthesizers enter into a realm that none of the others can touch. ;)

Got tired from music actually, don't listen to it in my spare time, just enjoy making it with others, but for the joy of moment, sharing human closeness, emotions, visions, tears, smiles, choose wisely projects where that is possible, they are rare, but precious.
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here? :D ShawnG

To be serious, what does it matter if your preferred instrument is a synth, a violin, a piano or drums etc?
What does it matter if you're getting tired of one instrument, and wish to pick up another instead?

There is no hierarchy of 'better' instruments - and particularly nowadays when making music, and promoting one's music (if one wishes), with all range of different instruments has never been easier or more open.

Any instrument is merely a tool which we use to express ourselves.
Humans make instruments come alive.

Even simple junkyard percussion, such as the mbira, can be performed beautifully if someone is willing to invest emotion and time:

So study and master new techniques for different instruments: synths, guitars, whatever.
Apply / modify this learning for other instruments if you wish.

Create music that reflects your soul, from what you have at hand - no matter what instrument you use.

It's a fitting theme for a drunk 4th (with all the windows closed and can't go outside because I hate it all)

Getting tired of electronic synth based music.
I only play non-electronic synths, though admittedly, they can be a bitch to tune.
I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

Analog is totally wonderful don't get me wrong for my comments on that one. I just like the simpicity of patch saving and interfaces. If you are totally fit physically analog is supreme enough I suppose I would figure. If you like a planet earth has the aspect of tons going on I can't get my head around external picturing attempts now and extra sensory perception is why. For owners of analog you can't just dump it all potentially I figure or you're just computer interface annoyed.

But it's so much easier to work with a comfortable chair to do sound presets for playing they don't care they do the tones if anyone didn't learn. It's tone and theory vs. sound selection taste and simpler playing so it's likely that for my mind I need to just explain, noone knows anything is the angst of my psychic linkers. If it sounds genius it probably is not criminal side our family if my theories sound genius. If they sound ultra genius I'm a know it all BECAUSE of psychic linking that is only in good heart. It's fatal to be dump and come after us for us if you win. Analog talk is better for these people but I have no recourse to talk to them so people might be able to read this. We will be consistently getting tricky attempts to somehow let them come to this house so just learn. It's corrupt to claim corrupt to Ben and Barry's friends. We have satellites that cause cancer. ONLY america does. The base are no heroes. LEARN. Or give up.

if you grew up in a generation idolizing Deep Purple , The scorpions with the whistling tune , the we are the champions (i really hate that track lol) The guys that wrote the Wall ok remembered them Pink Floy and others like them , which truly i never found their sound or music good or anything special (except for Soldier of fortune original mix) then when growing up i came into Nirvana and then after Foo Fighters and the Rave Scene started booming with acts like SFX/Astral Projection , The Delta , Tim Schuldt or X-Dream epic melodies from Goldenscan the you had Josh Wink - Higher State Of Consciousness Original ,the 303 ,that was when i fell in love with the Electronic Synths , you would think otherwise :)

however you could always try jamming with one of the some many virtual guitars and virtual basses laying around ! Orange Tree Guitars are beautifull ! so are Musiclabs realguitars and Ample Sound's guitar selection too ! No need to confine yourself to just synth sounds , you'r Kontakt real pianos , drum/beat/groove machines ,Miroslav Philarmonik ! Yamaha Vocaloid's singing voice !
