I saw a new plugin that was released recently and although it was interesting I thought it didn't really do enough.

My idea was have a plugin that not only analyzes loudness and dynamic range, but also measures the ratio of loudness between frequency bands and M/S. Also having a clear reference in the plugin that tells you that you're in an acceptable range might be useful. I'm thinking 2 arrows or lines in the meters that users could set themselves.

For example users could listen to 10 hard rock songs and then set the maximum loudness to the same level as the loudest of those 10 and the min loudness and the quietest. They they could save this as a preset and in the future when they're trying to set the loudness of their master/final mix they can reference that to see if they're in an acceptable range. Of course there could be presets that come with the plugin, but the ability to set these things yourself according to your own taste would be valuable.

The frequency band ratios could be used in the same way, but instead of overall loudness they could be used to monitor the ratio between bass and mids or bass and treble. Of course this could be used in mastering, but I think it would also be useful at the beginning of a mix. You could do a rough fader mix and then put this on the master to check the ratios, then adjust accordingly. After that you can add effects, etc.

To be honest I don't know if this would work as well as I think, but it might be something that can really save some time for those with imperfect monitoring environments, those with little mixing experience or those who just want to save time.

Anyone have any thoughts?

This plugin.

Of course my idea is quite a different. I liked the idea of something telling you if you had too much bass, but I thought it could be expanded. Instead of a fixed bad point something that tells you if you have too much or too little bass based on songs you like would be better IMO. Of course not only bass, but also treble, mid range ,etc.

Hmmm, that's an odd plugin :o :D.

As for your idea, I'm afraid I don't see it as "great" as it should to be prioritized. Sure, some plugin, that would analyze different aspects of the audio and makes sure these are all within certain range would be nice, but it's a lot more complex than that and eventually one would need to use the ears anyways :). Well I'll think about it, but there some way more interesting projects right now.

I understand, it was just an idea that popped into my head. I'm interested in the new projects you've mentioned, so I don't mind if you skip this one to get those done.
