Time stretching of loops, is there hope on the way?

I'm a hair shy of registering my demo copy of Tracktion - the interface just rocks for simplicity. It makes so much sense to me; pick input method on the left. Play and edit the content in the middle, mangle it on the right. It's a beautiful thing.

However,

I'm looking for a audio/midi/loop sequencer that will let me time or pitch shift loops without the audible artifacts that seem to occur with all 3 algorithms in Tracktion.

I have a simple little 2 bar loop that is at about 90 bpm, and I wanted to shift it down to 83 bpm. I tried all 3 time stretching algorithms, and each one left me disappointed, whether it was a phase shifter kind of sound that resulted, or beats not getting mapped correctly and stuttering.

7 bpm isn't too much to as for. The same loop in Acid 2.0 does just fine with almost zero artifacts (inaudible one I add other tracks).

So, will the next version of n-Track have improved time stretching?

n-Track, perhaps? But Tracktion... hmmm... :P

I would think this would be addressed in the next version, as many are complaining about it.

n-Track? :x :x

Yeah, I can relate. If T2 doesn't have it, I'll get the next version of Dicer. May do so anyhow, if it comes out soon enough and cheaply enough. (not that Dicer isn't plenty cheap already) ;)

or maybe use eXT instead? (which already will have good time-stretching by the time T2 comes out as I am sure :D)

I DO use eXT. ;) I have to admit, I've never truly explored most of its comps. I've just been using it for modular FX routing.

it's also a full blown sequencer as you surely already know :D

I'm gonna post a few tracks made solely with eXT soon 8)

Yeah, but I can't suss the audio sequencing. I'm not a MIDI guy. Even in NicFit's wonderful tutorial, there were a LOT of clicks and menus.

I still think Tracktion's the king for audio workflow. You... subversive!! :x

I already have ACID to do timestretching. I want to do timestretching WITHIN my sequencing app - of which Tracktion looks way cool from a signalflow/workflow standpiont.

How does eXT interface with Tracktion, if it does. I visited the site and it's very limited in description. If it's a full fledged sequencer, would I want that running inside of tracktion?

I might just commit the final sin and buy Cakewalk Home Studio version 2, which supposedly handles loops quite well. Plenty of full, non academic copies for sale on e-Bay for 96$ out the door, shipping included.

Back in the day, I vowed never to use Cakewalk due to the sea of icons it bombarded me with. The interface doesn't look so cluttered anylonger, but certainly not as 'Bang & Olufsen' minimalist as Tracktion.

Please, please, please make the loop stretching sound like ACID and I will buy Tracktion without hesitation. I have to have it for drums. I can't program drums to sound no matter how hard I try - I rely on loop CDs. Can't play em live, can't play em step entered, piano roll-ed however you like it, I just can't do drums on my own.

eXT can load in 3 ways (all come as a bundle):

-standalone sequencer
-VST Effect
-VST Instrument

I can't see any difference between the "instrument" and the sequencer, to be honest with you. It's just that one loads separately, and one loads from within a host.
