If I knew how, I would make dubstep too !Hellfog wrote:Way too much Dubstep for my taste in this comp.
I usually give those tracks 4 or 5 points just because of the production skills.
Can't really listen for too long though ... getting old I guess

mm..I'm unable to generalize on Dubstep,
there are at least two catergories of that here AFAIS,
ones is "let's throw in some Dubstep because it's cool and will shows my skills"
and the other one is a deeper understanding of the genre and thus used skillfully
in the arrangement.
Well, by that, of course I appreciate the Dubstep in the OSC tracks
when it's meaningful to me
and not just a threw in "Wow!" effect.

This is true of ALL dubstep... there are exactly 1 Billion dubstep producers. Most of them make a lot of synth lines that are crazy or impressive with no musical content at all. Every now and then it's cool, but rarely.liqih wrote:there are at least two catergories of [dubstep]

Yeah, I think about the same as you, but since we were talking about the OSC entries I didn't want to get into the more complex scene of the Dubstep world.(where you can find stuff like Burial for instance)z.prime wrote:This is true of ALL dubstep... there are exactly 1 Billion dubstep producers. Oh dubstep. What happened to you?
You used to be so smooth and mysterious back when you lived in the UK.
But then you moved to the US, and suddenly you had tons of new friends who thought you were just the coolest.
I'm sorry to say it, but I really think it went to your head.
You started making questionable fashion decisions, getting overly loud and aggressive when drunk, and none of your old friends could give you a polite warning about the direction you were headed in without a fight.
Nowadays we hardly talk anymore, but I still remember who you used to be, and I guess your new thing isn't ALL bad...
Well best of luck anyway dubstep, we had some fun times.

Voted! Many tracks indeed and lot of good ones,
so I used the full range from 1 to 5,
and those I gave 1 or 2
don't mean they are bad for me, but for I found them of a little lower quality as recording and not matching
very much with my taste (for instance I don't like the progressive rock harmonies)
Many thanks to all who wrote generous comments on my track page.
You made me happy.

That's why I like your tracks. Allway something to sing/whistle along with.z.prime wrote: This is true of ALL dubstep... there are exactly 1 Billion dubstep producers. And then those production skills ...
I 'write' most of my stuff in my head. Then at the piano I try to recreate what I hear inside my head. If I can't sing along I'm not gonna record it.
One day I'll have to try another approach, to step outside my comfort zone, as Master Taron suggested.
I think another 'problem' I have is that most of the time the sounds I need for a song are created along with the song, in my head. Then I'm desperately trying to recreate the sound I'm hearing. Maybe I'll have to do that the other way around.

Oh oh! Hope my "pre progressive rock" track (by maybe 15 years!!!) didn't offend your ears too much ????liqih wrote: ... not matching very much with my taste (for instance I don't like the progressive rock harmonies)
... and yes, I voted similarly by using the whole range - 1 and 2 only means not as good as 3,4,5 to my rather ancient ears and taste!

Listened to all entries and voted, found some really nice, beautiful, impressive, cool music. I guess I will download my favorite tracks to make a compilation album.
