One Synth Challenge #88: TAL-NoiseMaker (Mac/PC) (z.prime wins!)

[continued...] no offense mr. ???, but I was a bit surprised by this.
I heard all the regulars bring their a-game, but I got really attached to this "electronic melt-banana" thing (that I got into my head about your track) way more than I should have... then I find the track bouncing around between my ears for the past day.

really though these last few weeks during voting have been great, I just got some nice-ish speakers+sub and have been seriously impressing my girlfriend and cats with what goes on here at OSC...
I'd show her some of my favs in headphones sometimes but now I could just let the group tracks play for a while while we did whatever, and everything this month was super cool! so it was good times and a great first run for my sub doing a proper listening session.
girlfriend and i'm sure cats as well were very impressed, and so was I, thought you guys should know haha

Great choice! I own it and I used to own the real thing, Roland Juno 60. This TAL-U-NO-LX is a great emulation. I feel right at home when I use it.

...but I'm happy either way! Can't wait to get you guys my own synth, which is just about ready for round one of Beta testing, I think. Yesterday I solved an old issue, which kept nagging me. Now I"m pretty excited!

Anyway, thanks for letting me know. I still have a broken Alpha Juno II in the garage...the keyboard is toast, but the sound of the synth was lots of fun to me then. Was a crappy keyboard anyway, hehe... but, yeah, I really loved the Roland gear I have (in the garage...in boxes...freaking abandoned. )

Amazing! So you are making a soft synth of your own? Sounds cool to me. I wish I had a mindset for software but I am a hardware engineer myself. Give me Components and I will build a hardware synth ..but software, not a chance

I find that more impressive, actually, even as I've practically abandoned all hardware except keyboard.
Yes, I'm writing my very first vst. It's C++, using next to the vst sdk (2.4) only the vstgui (4.0.1), meaning that it's been a hell of a ride for me already, but also that I'll only have it for windows (x64 / x32) for the time being. Hopefully I'll find some help doing a mac port at some point...not sure. It's name is "Cirque", by the way, and I'm having a blast with it!

I'm assuming you haven't built a hardware synth, yet, have you? I would assume you'd have no troubles fixing your own synths. Pfff, that is an awesome power to have.
I still have to fix my precious Korg M1, which I used as a keyboard for almost 30 years now (28), but which broke last year, but it's only one stupid little thing, I'm sure. The modulation stick data output is freaking out?! ...mechanically it seems alright, though.

I actually neve built a full scale synth, all though I made filters, osccilators and amplifiers. Funny thing with hardware but when I try to build an oscillator it Always turn into an amplifier and vice versa ..when you want something to oscillate it never does. Tolerances and characteristics of Components are what they are. Matching Components can be such a pain.

I been fixing all my own hardware thru the years so it has been a benifit but I am so jeallous of all you clever software guys. I tried to write some C++ code but I don't have the patience for that. Hope I get to see your synth once it is ready

Oh god, if you try to write a vst synth, you'll go mad, unless you have extreme determination, nerves of steel and enough experience with coding to dig all the way down to the core of it to figure out what it does, because the documentation appears to be only for those, who already don't need it anymore, hahahaha... I went damn near crazy. While the web is your only hope, it won't be your solution, if you dare venture off into your own ideas. Which I did and have developed only custom controls and loads of weird dsp approaches, while borrowing some of musicdsp.org and one oscillator from here, actually, though altered quite a bit. It's safe to say: There are no gifts along the way!

But, yeah, I figured it can't be "easy" to make a hardware synth, considering the decades of development that went into the respectable ones. I still have a prodigy, too, by the way, where the previous owner put a second oscillator into. What a beautiful beast that was (is). It, too, had keyboard troubles, though...meh... long live cv, haha.

I Would be a very happy person if I learn how to make some crazy noise machines.
Like guitar distortions, filters and dub sirens. Maybe my own guitar amplifier. But unfortunately I know nothing about circuits, soldering things and etc.

Its never too late to learn ..Distortion for example is basically a controlled clipping of an audio signal. Making a distortion effect is not that difficult to be honest, but making a really good one might require some more work. Clipping occur when you overdrive an amplifier. I am sure you experienced it already with a normal amplifier.

The thing is that even though I may be able to build stuff, the mass produced units are always much cheaper than I can make them myself. So there is no economical gain to build your own hardware. But it's fun of course

Internet is full with schematics and component layouts.

Things are not so cheap here in Brazil. Too much taxes. But what attracts me is this "mad scientist" feeling of trying things by myself.

Thanks for the comps Actioncat! Melt Banana is a nice comparison as I find them quite entertaining (seen them live about four times).
A bit off topic but I love your Avatar Actioncat. I just recently realized that the pentagram resembled a cat and the most interesting bit is the animal commonly associated with the pentagram is the goat. If you rearrange the letters of "goat" it spells "gato" which is "cat' in Spanish
