I really don't understand how egoist cannot even slice and play back a 1 bar loop in unity ready for reordering.
surely for a slicer this should be an absolute basic ?

Take any 1 bar drum loop (a break beat) try and slice it and get it to play back the same as the original ready for rearranging.

Yeah, it plays all the slices quantized to the grid.
I think that's because it has only (up to) 16 steps and slices.
But I think it is not the only one, seems Geist 1 also quantizes to the grid, it just has more steps so it is less noticeable.

That's because it slices to transients
It needs 4,8,16 slice option and manual slice.
Egoist desperately needs an update.
