is there any chance you didn't read the release notes?rpc9943 wrote:um i bought tracktion- im saying i tried to import the finalmix into audition as a vst effect and its not noticing it.
RonC
It's Tracktion-only
(they'd be mad if it worked with other hosts

I just tried Cakewalks VST adapter and it is not picking it up either. I am not really bothered about that as I am will use it in Tracktion anyway but it is an interesting move if it cannot be used in ohter packages by RMS and Mackie.rpc9943 wrote:um i bought tracktion- im saying i tried to import the finalmix into audition as a vst effect and its not noticing it.

I can see why someone would want to at least try it in another host.
Maybe this is Tracktions first hardwired native VST plug. Other manufacturers do the same thing.
Cakewalk did it with their Lexicon reverb.
Not a bad start for Tracktion!

It's really heating up on the sequencing front! I wonder how many new users Tracktion will have now. Also what on earth is coming in T2?lowkey wrote:It does have some serious presets.
Well there goes my main reason to open up Sonar:
Mastering.
You would have o be insane to buy any of the "big 3" after this.

And 300 bucks out of pocket too. Who the hell would buy a $400 plug to use in cubase if they could get it for $80 as part of Tracktion then uninstall Tracktion and carry on happily?jens wrote:(they'd be mad if it worked with other hosts)
This is actually a deeply shrewd business move on Mackie's behalf. Figure it this way: few Tracktion customers are likely to be in the market for $400 plugins. Mackie probably identify Tracktion as being very much in the hobbyist/home studio market, which lets face it is where they do most of their business.
By giving away $400 plugins they probably haven't lost themselves all that many sales of high end plugs -- few enough user would be buying them, and those that do are not necessarily gonna choose mackie plugs -- so this basically builds a huge draw for Tracktion as a product, and a massive amount of lock-in for leaving it. To jump to another host would now cost you the price of the host + the price of an eq up to the callibre of FinalMix. The more plugins they throw in, the most costly it becomes to ever move away from Tracktion.
If they release a decent wave editor in the same market that complements Tracktion then they can quickly create a complete solution with strong inertia to compete directly, at a much lower price point, against anything Steinberg or Apple could throw at them.

OK, but that only matters to you. New users don't have Audition, so this is a very useful addition to a squencer that is thus far lacking high end native effects.chagzuki wrote:I cant see that this offers anything that audition's multiband FX don't.

Yes but I think this is more of a move to get new users on board who may not have mastering software and are in the market for a host. There are of course other mastering plugs out there.chagzuki wrote:I cant see that this offers anything that audition's multiband FX don't.
But Final mix$399 + Tracktion $80 > Total =$80
Is not very good math but is great value for money to say the least.

I was replying to the guy who wanted to import it into audition. It appears to be a decent plugin for other people.
Though these days 300/400$ is WAY too much to ask for something like this.

I can only but agree with Chag, though I'm very happy Mackie did such a move. I remember good ol' times when the EQ and Comp from Timeworks were bundled with Sonar. This made me choose it over Cubase (no regrets).
As for audition, well, I don't have it, so I won't compare.
At least now, you can see Tracktion + Audacity + SFZ + Free SF2 on the web = $80 to work out serious audio to the final mix...

Awesome. And just yesterday I was starting to think about getting a plug like this because I found that my usual array of elcheapo/free mastering plugs did'nt cut it.
Sucks that they put in the full install though, it fuxors my folder structure. A separate DL would have been good.
EDIT> And its a real beauty at that. The presets are good. Modest CPU pull. Sounds clear and open. Schwing.

The presets are pretty good as well, it does have a good sound.Rockdude wrote:Man this is so great! I already love Final Mix!
The biggest surprise for me is that the CPU usage is fairly low for a mastering plug...
