I was wondering if there were a way to "hold" a note indefinetly in MuLab. I want to trigger a pad or drone sound and have it hold until I trigger another note.

Also I was wondering if someone could explain how to use the step sequencer listed in modules/event generators

Thanks

For indefinite hold, if you don't need an envelope, just remove the ADSR module. If you do, use a multipoint envelope with "On Note Off" set to "Stop Looping".

For next note mutes, that's the same as mono-phonic rather than poly-phonic, i.e. single voice. Set the Poly Synth module polyphony to 1 (either right-click the polysynth or use the toolbar tools menu once in the polysynth editor).

Thanks for the reply. I can definitely employ that method. I should have clarified, I'm looking to trigger a VST. Some instrument do not give me access to the envelopes. For instance, the one that inspired the question was Dronos by WOK.
I only have the demo of MuLab and didn't want to waste a track on a drone. Not really recording anything just playing around with some classic Berlin School type sequencing.

Thanks

Hi radiognome,

You can do that easily with an Audio Envelope Follower and a Sine or Noise generator.
The AEF will produce a single note of your choosing pretty much indefinitely.
You can use any of the event processors on the note as well.
Hope this helps...

Here I made a quick utility patch for myself, "Note Generator" if you want. Just insert it
in a rack before your vst... Turn it on or off with the threshold parameter.
It can do chords as well via the note mapper.
*changed it to accept sidechain input and midi / modulation input (via a noise generator).
So you can drive it with audio or midi input from another source.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Thank you very much. I can't quite figue out how to change nptes on the fly but this is definitely what I was trying to accomplish

I'm kind of used to have an old Korg Monoply and a Yamaha CS-15 that allowed me to "hold" a note.

This mux is quite different. I understand certain aspects and can sort of see what you did but what I don't understand are the inputs. To me an event input would be from a key press or trigger of sorts, modulation from a wheel or oscillator and audio input would be from an audio source. I don't see where or how to link things in or create the event or mod.

I wish the docs were a little more in depth

Thanks for the help

Currently, you can't really modulate the envelope followers output on the fly.
The only way I can think of doing that would be to use multiple followers
set to different thresholds and notes. Or simply use a follower to drive a
step sequencer.

All the inputs and outputs are just there for utility. You can drive it with
internal audio, e.g. the sine and noise generators, or external audio.
The modulation input is there so you can modulate the gain of the noise
via an external module thus driving the follower if you want. The noise
generator is similar to a regular oscillator in that it can be triggered via an event,
hence the event input. As for the event input to the follower, I've yet to figure
out exactly what that does tbh.

Heh, I've never really read much of the Mux or MuLab documentation so I cant
help you there. I have been meaning to, and will at some point probably. :)

*On a further note, it might not seem like it at first, but you can use the
envelope follower to do quite allot if you think about it. Since we can convert
modulation to audio, you could for example, draw out your own volume envelope
with a multipoint envelope, convert it to audio, then drive the follower with it.
If you use an array of them, you could probably make an arpeggiator or you own
step sequencer if you wanted.
