I didn't see any documentation for Final Mix included so I found it here:

Did the setup include any docs about it?

I guess everyone has their own definition of what a particular sound is but I will say this much...I have Ozone and Final mix has a comparable sound as far as *Eq and compression* are concerned.jens wrote:sow how does it really sound then?

Although of course it does not have an additional multiband exciter, multiband imager, mastering reverb and loudness maximizer like Ozone (not that I can see anyway).
I think Final mix has 3 bands for compression if I am not mistaken and a 6 band parametric EQ.I think because the cpu usage is low I could use this at track level. I was very close to getting Gliss Eq and Voxengo's new Crunchessor as track level (insert) plugs. I am glad I held out. No need to buy them now
I find Final mix very clean but the best description you will probably get is to go through all or at least some of the 50 odd presets yourself and hear it for yourself. The presets are pretty broad and give a very nice idea as to the capability of Final mix.
Nothing grainy or cheap about the sound from Final mix so far.

If the plan was to throw a bone to the dog, they have succeeded. I'm well impressed, as I for one DON'T have any mastering-level plugins, and can't afford any, either.
This gives me warm fuzzy feeling about Mackie, which can serve many purposes--
1. Get the current user base back on the "T rules" bandwagon (not that we ever left, but there have been rumblings of discontent)
2. Provide a HUGE impetous for potential new users to jump in and go for it (instead of balancing pros and cons... $400 software [even if overpriced] for the cost an $80 that is one of the best already (regardless of price) makes it a no-brainer for many people.
3. Press releases across various media that will have reviewers (justifiably) sharing their excitement. Just from places like K-v-R and magazines like CM/FM, the 'news' is actually news-worthy enough for many to take a second look and renew past praise.
I'm sure there's more, but I'm itching to play.
This is one of those rare cases where I somehow feel that I'm on the receiving end of a clever marketing scheme, but I just don't care. Au contraire, I'm well happy.

wow, what a great addition!
is this just me being dim: are we supposed to get email notification of updates?
(next a high quality reverb would hit the spot

If T2 includes a maximiser/dither plug & integral CD burning, I reckon it will be a killer mastering app!
Imagine: import your 32/24 bit mixdowns.. drop a FinalMix onto each, & a maximizer in the master section.. set track start / ends with markers.. drag those little handles for your fades etc.. when you have your whole album laid out, hit the "burn red-book cd" button..
I could imagine people buying it for that purpose even if they were die-hard Cubase/Logic nuts when mixing..
..anyway, thanks Mackie, and nice one Jules: I reckon you're onto a winner here.

they really should put that plugin on the minimal install. for goodness sake!
Now ill have to change directories of the effects, and erase those example songs!

Tracktion already has cd track ripping /import which is very elegant for me. I wonder...cd burning hmmmmm.
It does have dithering already but yes a better plug...? Maybe...just maybe.

My heavens! I think I'm going to sneak out of work early today so I can go home and play with this!
Is this just the first of things to come? I'd love more native Tracktion plugins myself, if they're all like this! Hmm.. possibly a new product line, more Tracktion-only plugins from Mackie?

This thing sounds so great and is so easy to use!!!

But: one thing about it is damned damned shit:
Whatever you switch on/off it always eats up the same amount of cpu-cycles
so it's rarely usable as a track-plug
- how can anyone programme such a great great programme and then make such a stupid stupid mistake?

edit: the soft clip makes a big difference, but appartently not the rest
