Is the saturation button available in all Melda plugins the same ?
Does saturation in MTurboComp vary from the different compressors ?

When saturation is turned off in MTurboComp, does the different compressors still retain a difference between each in terms of color ?

I can clearly hear a difference between the different comps when saturation is turned up but not so much when turned down.

Is it just the comps behavior that change or color is supposed to be noticeable too when no saturation ?

The thing about Compressors is that every compressor in the world does the same function. What is important is the way the compressor treats your audio. There are so many compressors and you use the compressor that enhances the musicality. This is the reason that a handful of Vintage Compressors became the goto for serious Audio Engineers.

You may find that the 1176 on a snare is giving you the sound you want but the Fairchild will not give you the same snare sound. But then you put the Fairchild on an Acoustic Bass and it sounds beautiful whereas the 1176 did not give you the same sound.

It is different Compressors for different sounds. The MTurboComp has a variety of Compressors all working differently on different audio. You can use any compressor but finding the right choice for the music is a real skill. With MTurboComp you should be able to match the right compressor to your music to give it that magic sound. You add the saturation as required to enhance that sound.

You can further tailor the Compressor to your needs by adjusting the side chain. You can Hi Pass and Lo Pass the side chain to control the way the the compressor attacks your sound. The EQ band allows you to say add some DE Essing or put in a minus EQ band so that part of the signal is not triggering the Compressor.

I hope this is some help in determining how to use the compressor and to be able to hear the difference between the different versions.

Does saturation in MTurboComp vary from the different compressors ? Yes, it has different modes to choose from like soft, clip etc. If you look at these modes they change depending on the compressor preset selected. Also the harmonics plays a big part in how the saturation sounds.

When saturation is turned off in MTurboComp, does the different compressors still retain a difference between each in terms of color ? No, all saturation comes from the saturation section.

I can clearly hear a difference between the different comps when saturation is turned up but not so much when turned down.
You should be able to hear the difference, I can. A good trick is to lower the threshold a lot to make the compressor exaggerate it character.

I would say that all the "colour" comes from the saturation section and the "behaviour" comes from the followers (attack/release shape, multiple follower interaction, level transfer etc)

Because the Saturation is on the input as well as the output being 2 different saturators the input saturator will influence the behaviour of the followers from what I can see.

It would be nice to have Vojtech's input on this.

Thanks for your inputs.

The saturation algorithm is similar :). That's all I can say :).

The question doesn't make sense to me. Anyways both saturation & compressor settings change both color and dynamic behaviour. And btw. the compressors sound very different even without saturation, just try them on drums - compressor character is mostly audible there.
