Could you elaborate as to why the Zoom Level is still ppqn dependent ?
I have started a thread comparing 'old' Filters with 'new' ZDF designs, with audio examples. I don't hear any magic in ZDF filters. Old does not mean bad. New does not mean better. Most advances in DSP have to do with real-time processing efficiency not audio quality. The principles of filter designs have been long established (in mathematics, most of it before real-time DSP was even possible). I invite you to continue the discussion here:

Looptalk ZDF Filter Comparison

Playlist zoom is linked to PPQ because slicing and Automation Clip control-point placement (by design) is quantized to PPQ. The Playlist only Zooms far enough to allow accurate placement of events and slices at the current PPQ. Allowing higher zoom is a false promise and people will wonder why their cursor jumps over so much data.

Will the Playlist always work this way? No.

I agree that old doesn't need to be bad .I have a 15 year old clavia modular G1 .sounds great .
Old softies can still sound fantastic ..dsp wizard john hodgson -->oddity V.1 stillsounds great , altough it shows it weaknesses when doing audio rate modulation and maximum resonance .
There is no magic in a zdf when the basic filter algoritm sounds bad , but it's fair to say that if one can understand the math behind the zdf , the person will probably take the time to code a decent filter too .
That said ,the max claster plugins filter sound O.K , you think it's possible to implement those in the sampler instruments ? :tu:

Ohyeah , just quickly visited the looptalk filter comparison ....I did the comparison a few years back .
The mango filters sounds pretty identical to zebra xmf ( set to analogue mode and a healthy amount of internal overdrive ).
Comparing it to monark is imho a bit far stretched .
Sytrus filters implemented in the sampler instruments might be a good move .

Peace

I need to immerse myself in all aspects of patterns/playlist. The problem is finding good vids on it is next to impossible and the manual is just way too dry to understand in the context of workflow.

Even searching at the FL site seems to bring up nearly everything that ISN'T what I want

Any recommendations?

Edit, again, I'm touchy today.

Thanks for the link. I just wish that youtube vids got to the point more w/o all the extras. Very distracting for me personally.

The best way to master it, is to ask for solutions for stuff that you want to achieve... There's no need to know every aspect of it at a glance...
Trust me, it's better that way.

Yeah, even 13-year-old kids comprehend how to use by themselves while fiddling with it.

edit...

Sorry, I lost my cool.

Maybe, but it took FOREVER just to figure out how to do audio :x I'm the opposite of you young guys, I'm old. Oddly it seemed perfectly fine to me back in the "old" days but it seems backwards to me now.

At any rate, before the kiddies start saying "well then why don't you just use that" (which of course I do) I want to take advantage of my "lifetime updates" and once I understand a few things, looks like fun.

Does anyone know where to get all the old FL demo songs?
They are in the browser, of course.

(motivational speech)

"I have a dream that one day, incubus will actually pay attention and look at right what is in front of him!" (and stop making so many errors)

Maybe, but it took FOREVER just to figure out how to....
That's what I'm talking about... It doesn't have to take "FOREVER"... Every time you found a wall on your journey, all you have to do is jump to some forum and ask for the solution. There's always people willing to help... This is the best way of learn things, instead of search for an exact tutorial....

Good places to ask questions:
Here (KVR) of course... :)
FL Studio's on Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/FL_Studio/ (Great place and community... quick responses and stuff)
Looptalk http://forum.image-line.com/viewforum.php?f=100 (Well, that's looptalk.. I don't like it very much... the fanboyism is overkill sometimes)...

But yeah, you just need to ask... :)

No-one is forcing you to read any other posts than your own

I don't see fanboyism there FWIW. What does that look like? :)

Alright, no worries, perhaps it's just me....

So I've seen a couple of vids on "gating" with the fruity limiter. Not to my taste. Anything else or will I have to get a gate?
