OK looks like the only way to make new banks and add patches to a bank is to go into the file system and literally add folders and move files, but will that upset the database functions? Playlists seem to be all saved in one XML file which means there probably isn't a way to share these, so what is the point of them exactly?

Looks like it does - the bank I made by copying presets into another folder loads fine but won't export. This is crazy, the whole system is not well thought through or documented.aMUSEd wrote:OK looks like the only way to make new banks and add patches to a bank is to go into the file system and literally add folders and move files, but will that upset the database functions?

Since Arturia have not seen fit to sort out the Prophet 5, VS and Hybrid patches in the Prophet V3, and unlike in the previous version even selecting the model in the gui doesn't change the patch selection, I have done it myself. The only caveat is I would not advise over writing the factory patches with these as it seems to mess up their database since the only way I could sort them was by doing it in the file system, the current Arturia preset manager is just not fit for purpose. So put them in user - it leads to duplicates but if you select by bank you won't see those.

Couldn't do it as playlists as they can't be exported and also there are only slots for 128 patches, and couldn't export these as bank files because the bank export is broken.

So to summarize the problems with patch management for Arturia:
1) There doesn't seem to be any way to reorganise patches into banks that can be exported. You can only reorganize patches in the file system but anything created that way can't be exported as a bank. You also have to be really careful doing this as it's too easy to mess up the database.
2) Bank export for me is also stuck on a single bank name, I can't see any way to save a bank this way and trying to do so just saves the same patch over and over.
3) No way to export playlists
None of this is good news for sound designers, the system does not seem to be designed to allow users to create banks that can be exported for others to use.

Well, I'm totally confused. I have sold a number of libraries containing 4 of the Arturia synths. Have had no problem exporting the banks I created and my customers have had no problem importing them.aMUSEd wrote:So to summarize the problems with patch management for Arturia:

So I have no idea what you're talking about.

Maybe it's just the Prophet then, or I'm doing something wrong. There is nothing in the manual on this though.

Let me go look and see if I can figure it out for you. I didn't do a library for Prophet so maybe they set that synth up differently, though I can't imagine why as all the other synths I did do libraries for have the same bank management system.aMUSEd wrote:Maybe it's just the Prophet then, or I'm doing something wrong. No I just checked and they all have the same setup. The problem for me is possibly different from you in that I wasn't aiming to make a new bank with new patches but create 3 new banks to sort out the hybrid, VS and P5 patches as they used to be sorted that way in the previous version. To make a new playlist there is a plus button to click on but there seems to be no way to make a new bank, and also there is no way to move patches from one bank into another so even if I did manage to make a blank bank I'm not sure how I would then get the patches I wanted into it (it also doesn't seem possible even to delete a patch once made, let alone move it in order to sort patches into banks). In the end I did this in the file system but it isn't allowing me to export the banks I have made that way.

This is what you do. You pull up the patch you want to place into a new bank, whatever it is. Go to save it and when you do, type in the new bank name. It will save the patch under that bank name. Do this for each patch you want to put in a new bank.aMUSEd wrote:No I just checked and they all have the same setup. OK thanks - guess I was looking in the wrong place and it doesn't even tell you that in the manual. tbh that's a ridiculous and tedious method if you have several hundred patches to reorganize, just as bad as the XILs presets. So you can only create a new bank by starting with an existing preset and resaving it? How do you delete one then?
I like the way playlists work much better, you have the plus to create a new one, they are easy to rename and delete and adding/reorganising presets is just a question of dragging and dropping. Such a pity you can't add more than 128 and can't export them otherwise I would have used that instead of banks. They should make a save playlist as bank command and scrap the silly 128 limit, that would speed things up.

There is no create or delete function. You start with an existing patch (which is what the templates are for) and then create your patch from it. Once it's created, it's there permanently.aMUSEd wrote:OK thanks - guess I was looking in the wrong place and it doesn't even tell you that in the manual. tbh that's a ridiculous and tedious method if you have several hundred patches to reorganize, just as bad as the XILs presets. Hello!!
I just discover the Arturia V5 Collection plugin but then i searched on their website and saw all their products, so now i'm a little bit confused.
I don't know which one to buy?
V4 Collection + Mini Lab controller and maybe later upgrade to v5
or
V5 Collection and Sparks 2?
What is really the difference between each one, can any one help me please?
Thanks so much in advance,
Fernando

1) GUIs are all resizable now.
2) Synclavier addition makes V5 worth it all by itself.
Let me put it this way. Didn't use V4 at all. Use V5 as much as any other collection.
Don't even think about getting V4. Not worth it.

Personally I don't see that this black and white.wagtunes wrote:fernandoramirez wrote:Hello!!

Yes, V5 includes some very good new instruments, and GUIs are resizeble, and new presets in the Media Lab.
BUT on the other hand, if you use laptop, the old GUIs are just good for 14-17 '' screen and much more elegant in V4 than the V5 "pizzaboxes" (all instruments are now inside a box, they are not floting freely on the screen as elegantly as in V4.
AND the new Media Lab is really a CPU hog, once again, if you are in the lap top, you may have very unresponsive plugin in your hands with the V5.
AND on my behalf I like the Spark 2, with all its shortcomings, i.e, its not perfect, but pretty good, and its not included to V5 but to V4.
As said, this is my personal view: there are both plus and minuses in the V5, depending on your use and preferencies.
