Is this possible and if so how?

Someone told me this was possible with uTonic but he's not available to ask at the moment.

Could I do this with StepChild for example?

I'm reel fik remember.

Maybw you can use Midi Yoke to do this. Output the track Midi to Midi Yoke and get it as input on Midi Yoke on another track and just record it...

Midi Yoke?
Ta.
Googling...

It's the same thing with Tracktion. I remember that ModuLR wrote some posts about how to abuse jthalamus in Tracktion quite a while ago...

Post

Right. Got Yoke and jthalamus. Still don't have a clue!
I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually.

edit: Canna find any of Mods relevent posts.

Got that sussed. Sort of!
The recorded output from StepChild is nothing like what I expected. Theres big long notes in there! The pattern I used was dead simple too IE a note every fourth step.
I think something in the chain aint behaving. Just using Yoke at moment, no jthingamy.

Sorry dude should have been clearer on this, Firstly its an absolute pain in the prick but it can be done and you dont need any of that add on bullshit.

1 Setup stepchild on one track
2 Make the next track a MIDI track by inserting an empty MIDI clip and assigning it to a MIDI out
3 Export MIDI file and tick pass thru midi filters but untick export only selected track
4 Now stepchild will export its MIDI straight to a file on the HD
5 Load in the MIDI file and you may find that for some stupid reason (This is Tracktion) the MIDI has dropped two octaves ,Select a note then use select all notes in clip and transpose back

I told ya it was a pain in the arse , I've just checked it again and it works fine except for the transpose thing.
One tip though remember to mute everything except the Step track and the export MIDI track otherwise you may get some stray notes :D
Now you're in deep shit

Oh also this gives proper note lengths and stuff without all that loop through flakey bollox.

Long notes shouldn't be there this way :D
Now you're in deep shit

Hi Karbon, this is the way I set it to work.

EDIT: the MIDI clip in the screenshot is the recorded result of MicroTonic.

Post

sorry dude but if thats the direct output from microntonic i'll be a monkeys nuts
the notes that come from Microtonic are a shitload shorter than that erm edited perhaps :D

anyway i've already told you how to do it without a plugin and midi yoke so why run the extra stuff?
Now you're in deep shit

Post

yup...I know Microtonic ouputs very very short midi noootes. :)
...but you know, we can set up quantize MIDI in Tracktion's MIDI Input arrow...and that's the result. :D

I thought your post was about StepChild. You mean it works with any plugin that exports MIDI?

EDIT, ah, yes, it works. Thanks for the tip. But it's surely a pita...

Post

Got a bit of a learning curve problem with the export to midi function in StepChild you see (need to learn midi format). Was wondering if there was a workaround so I can release OSX version sans export while I finish the code.

yeah my trick will work on tarmac
I aint famous enough to be handin out signatures

I hope in T2 we can drag filters left to the tracks, and use them as virtual inputs. This will:
a) Simplify the process of recording MIDI/ audio from a plugin.
b) Will help keep the project cleaner (less tracks)
c) Allow some complex routings easily, esp. in conjunction with rack filters.
