Let me make this perfectly clear.
This is not a crap product. I'm sure it's excellent. Everything Spectrasonics does is excellent.
I just don't think this is going to be the big seller everybody else seems to think it's going to be. There is simply too much of this stuff already out there. It's not like Omnisphere which is almost a monopoly unto itself. I mean how many products out there even come close to it? A handful?
Eric was right about one thing. It's not what anybody expected.
Maybe there's a good reason for that.

Is the GUI the same for all instruments, a big picture of the instrument, and a couple of generic looking knobs to twist?
Kind of makes Rapture Session look professional

And are relations with Roland now so strained that Big Eric can't even mention their name in the product description
In 1987, shortly after they discontinued the Rhodes product line, Fender sold the Rhodes brand name to a well-known Japanese manufacturer where Spectrasonics President Eric Persing was Chief Sound Designer. Two years later, the Japanese company released the MK-80 – a digital “re-imagining” of the electro-mechanical Rhodes

Actually I've not read too many people saying it'll be a big seller. I think it will sell less than Trilian, itself way less than Omni. But sell it will - and keep on selling for many many years. It's one of those high quality specialised products that will always be there - kinda boring in a way, not for mass market so much but unambiguously good stuff.wagtunes wrote:I just don't think this is going to be the big seller everybody else seems to think it's going to be.
Numanoid - this product is a rompler. For all the boring and wildly inaccurate taunts over the years about Omni being a rompler - this is what one actually looks like. Consider it a Player library - the first of many from Spectrasonics. If you want to get your hands on it properly, then you'll need Omni, much like for UVI you need Falcon or NI you need Kontakt.
Actually I think this is one of the biggest disappointments of the release - with Trilian you had some synth and hybrid patches. It's quite an unpleasant surprise to find none of that here. Maybe a chance for some quick enterprising third parties to come in, for those who own Keyscape and Omni.

I found the speculation funny at the first half of this thread, latter half (after announcement) has taken a sharp drop off of a cliff.
My impressions is,
Professional musicians with serious chops: "Wow this plays/sounds great!"
Amateur musicians wanting synths: "My life is ruined with this release!"

For people who can actually play there will always be a market for a high end product like this, for someone entering the market its good value. For some one who has invested in the alternatives it's not so clear. If this is a good as it sounds in the vids it will sell consistently for years, not the "break the Internet Omni 2 launch" style but well enough.
My phone only concern would be how well the Steam engine copes with a fully polyphonic sample playback dinasour like a piano.

Its understandable that people are a bit disappointed, the problem is with teasers....unless you have something really cool on the end of it people get a bit upset (and whilst I am sure the romper will sound great, its not exactly earth shattering in approach, content or design)
It will be interesting to see/hear a comparison with all the other great keyboard and physically modelled keyboard romplers out there....UVI keyboards, Komplete keyboards, Arturia keyboards etc-I am pretty sure most people have (some) of these so it is a tough market to sell a 400 buck VST in and a very tough market to get people exited about....

To play such instruments expressionwise a high end midi controller is also needed, likewoodsdenis wrote:For people who can actually play there will always be a market for a high end product like this, for someone entering the market its good value.

I don't think one will get too much out of it with nanokeys to put it that way

I think the KVR community forgets, or simply fails to realize, that there is a vast world full of musicians out there that are not home studio hobbyist producers, and that they often have much different needs. If I was still a gigging musician, this would be an instant purchase for me (possibly still will be, if a loyalty discount is offered). How many Keyscape sales that will translate into is anybody's guess, but thats not really our concern, is it?
