Will T7 work properly on Windows XP?

I've been running T7 on my PC (dual-core intel 3.2 / windows xp pro / 2 gig ram / RME Hammerfall HDSP 9652 soundcard) since it's first release, and I've had poor results overall, compared to running T3.

I just noticed that the requirement charts for usage on pc state windows 7 or higher (!!).

Can anyone at Tracktion or any of you fine folks confirm that the program won't run properly on XP and that I should move back to T6??

Also - if I move back to T6, will T7 work files I have done already open properly and sound exactly the same in T6?

Hey,

I think there is a good reason why T7 is only supported for win7 and above. That said, you shouldn't expect T7 to run properly on XP. In case it is running on someones XP machine without any problems, there is really likely a good pack of luck involved. It's almost the same with every DAW now, that win7 seems to be the minimal requirement. Maybe its time for an upgrade. ;)

About the "upwards" comptibality : I think as long as you use the functions which both versions (t6 and t7) have, you should be on the save side, but I'm not sure...

Greetings

Just performed a test and opened up a song created in T7 in T6 without issue. I'm not sure what it would do with T7 specific features...
iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017), 4.2 GHz Intel Core i7
Radeon Pro 580 8 GB
Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 3rd Gen
Waveform 11 Pro/Studio One Pro 3.5

I think T-whichever would benefit from running on XP or W7 with a number of services and processes closed down, even if only temporarily by running a script to close them after a satisfactory boot. I've been intending to do this on a W7 PC, but I have a W10 laptop that I've been using in preference, and not got round to trying it. If and when I do, I'll report on it, but don't hold your breaths.
[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10/11/12/13, 32(to W8)&64 all, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.

IIRC, even T4 had a requirement for Win7 or above when it came out, but they admitted they were hoping it would run on XP.
I ran it that way ( on XP) for awhile, but it had issues with track count. It wouldn't play complex projects that T3 or Reaper 4 would run without issue.

I have since moved on to different hardware that came with Win 7, so, not sure if it was hardware or OS causing those problems. I just know they're gone! :hihi:
