Hello forum people,

I'm a guitarist/singer/songwriter looking for a good sequenzing program for my iBook. I have some recording background on Cubase on the PC but just didn't like it enough to spend any more money on it. So I've downloaded the Tracktion demo and really like its user interface and audio capabilities.

But I also have a Roland XP-30 Synth i really like and want to use with Tracktion. When I record some midi stuff and hit play the result is less than convincing. Tracktion plays some notes twice and has lots of hickups. It gets worse when i move faders or select tracks while playing. I've read that Tracktion in demo mode sends random midi noteoffs, but what i hear is far worse.

Does this sound familiar to any one of you using Tracktion on OS X with external midi gear? Aside from some synchronising issues i haven't found anything concerning this problem in the search.

My setup is:
Tracktion Demo (both the latest build and the one before),
iBook 700 / 640Mb running OS X 10.3.5,
Motu Fastlane (i've also tried a Midisport 1*1 with the same results),
Roland XP-30 synth.

I'm more than willing to buy Tracktion but this has to get fixed first.

Thank you in advance,
Axl

I'm on a pc i'm afraid, so can't be much help, but where did you read that? I'm fairly sure that's nonsense, it would put people right off buying if a demo did that. I definitely didn't come across that in the pc demo before I bought it.

A mac person will be along shortly :)

It is true that the demo version sends midi noteoffs. At least that was true for previous demo versions. Jules wasn't sure whether he left that restriction in the current one or not, but he is going to remove it for future releases.

I read it on the german Tracktion forum http://forum.pady.net/viewforum.php?f=1. Pady confirmed it and also said Jules would remove this since it's obviously not a good idea.

Any maccies around :?:

It sends note offs to external midi devices, not to softsynths.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

Fair do's, i've never sent midi to an external device from Tracktion, so if it does that, then I'd never have noticed. Can't see why that would be a good demo restriction ... wouldn't people just think the software was buggy? I mean, it's not in the documentation as a demo restriction, is it, so how would people know?

Did it not fire up a dialogue saying so when you started it? Pretty sure it did.
Not helping the boys problem at all here!
