Just a quick comment: If you make a fairly minimal track with just a couple of melodic lines etc, maybe don't make it as loud as it can go.. blew my head off :o
Begun the loudness war has...

Sorry if it was my song because your description might fit it. My previous songs were often a bit quieter than the competition so I hope I didn't go overboard with it this time (track should be around DR-10). Then there is also the technical challenge to just see how far the material can be pushed.

Not really talking about a specific track so much despite getting a bit of a shock. It's just a general trend I have noticed. My track is a little quiet compared to some but generally if I monitor at the level I was commercial stuff sounds loud but easily tolerable. A few of the OSC tracks so far I can't listen to at that level because of too much high end or just too loud. I remember reading up on the loudness wars and I think it was Bob Katz who made the point that a recording a folk singer with a guitar will sound louder than a heavy metal band if you want it too. So yeah less tracks/channels = more headroom.

Greetings,

Voted, now busy leaving some comments on SC.

I had a lot of fun listening to everyone's contribution, there's certainly a *lot* of talent showing off Helm's impressive capabilities. I also got some great ideas for using the synth in future projects, a nice side benefit to the challenge.

Good luck to all entries !

Best,

Power was out for just short of 72 hours, but it looks like it's going to be over a week for many others in town. I consider myself lucky!

Voting complete!

Just posting this to be on the sure side because it was necessary in the past. If I interpret the rules correctly it is not necessary anymore because of the way the voting page works?

Good luck to everyone! Lots of interesting and well done entries.
