I can't get that goddamned manual to finish opening..it just hangs in acrobat..

What's on the back panel? Can someone post a screen shot or a description from the manual?

One other thing that occured to me is why doesn't this unit employ firewire technology? I don't understand why ANYTHING is using USB v1 these days..

Old Acrobat version?

USB1? Good god man!

USB2 and firewire are close to the same for file transfer speed, but usb1? Puhleeez!!

The whole Receptor thing is interesting but I have my doubts that it will succeed.

They say:

Receptor can run VST plug-ins from the best developers in the world without the complexity and fragility of a computer. In addition Receptor has been optimized for low latency, which provides high performance in real-time environments.

Sorry, but it is a COMPUTER and a crippled one and just as fragile as a computer. So within a year, the hardware of this thing is aged. And it all ready is. A max video resolution of 1024 x 768 ? A VGA connection, no digital video? No dual monitors ?
Can we change the components? Add memory etc.
VSTi's are quickly evolving and techniques used are increasingly asking more processor power.

I think this is realy an interesting but an very ill fated attempt.

Back in 1980's there were these on CPM based dedicated wordprocessor thingies (Phillips, Amstrad). Does anyone remember them?

To me it looks also as the completely failed idea of dedicated Internet computers. At least these things were cheap. This thing is far to expensive.

Hrm... it seems more fragile and more a "gimmick" as I look at it more. I could be a 2u unit like that easily... The interface is very cool though. But a small LCD could be even cooler
