(Q1) Many of the MXXX presets (and some of the Active presets) have a single band and one plug-in module loaded.

I cannot think that they offer anything above the same settings in the individual plug-in, other than as a base from which to start. Have I missed the point?

(Q2) What can I do with the Follower in MXXX? Does anyone have any examples? My mind's gone blank.

For Q2, as it turns out, I asked exactly the same question a while back. I'm using the follower module for some specific stuff where I want to smooth out an signal to create a more gentle RMS-averaged control signal for something outside of Melda plugs. Essentially I'm turning an audio signal into a smooth control signal, it's a bit of an unusual use case to be fair.

Also, remember you can create a feedback signal from any module, then use that feedback signal as the input for a modulator. So using the follower you can pre-process a signal before it gets used by a modulator.

Hope that sort of gives you one possible use.

Found the original thread, here's Vojtech's response:

Yep, Follower literally converts the signal into the follower signal, which is completely useless for auditioning :), but you can use it to send it as a sidechain to several modules. E.g. you can send it to any compressor or anything where you set attack & release to minimum to be as quick as possible and basically override the internal follower. Of course you can do more magic with it, just a few ideas:

1) Send the follower output to sidechain of Math FX set to multiply, that will sort of exaggerate the dynamics.

2) Use multiple followers in parallel merged using ratio FX, or for example math FX set to maximize, and then to a compressor. Hard to say what would happen, but it would be sort of like a parallel compression, but on a completely different level :).

3) Post process the follower using a waveshaper to actually change the follower character, making it severally nonlinear, sort of like analog stuff, but you can get much further...

Etc. just brainstorming :).

And to Q1:
I believe that only active presets were made for MXXX. I think the standard presets were just ported over from the individual plugins, hence why they are basic in comparison.
