Bitwig loads the factory presets ok, anything i make in Modular i save as a bitwig presetaMUSEd wrote:I would have thought Bitwig would partially work as the browser does read fxp patches, the problem would be saving patches.Echoes in the Attic wrote:There is no internal preset manager? So I guess no presets can be loaded in Bitwig at all? Crazy.

No good though if you also use Modular in other hosts, which many people do.

Been watching this thread with interest, and though I have yet to get Modular, I would get around this (personally) by loading it into Cantabile (32/64-bit) which works as a Vst(i) (sub-host) in whatever DAW, as it does save both fxp, and fxb. It also saves whatever configuration of synths/effects you load into it, as a preset/project (etc), as does xlutop chainer (32-bit only) [2c]aMUSEd wrote:No good though if you also use Modular in other hosts, which many people do.

There are workarounds, for sure. However, that's not what we are supposed to do on an instrument released in 2016. I bought it because I like modulars, this has proper emulations of real hardware modules, and I decided to take advantage of the special launching price. But if I knew that didn't have a proper patch management, I probably wouldn't.Shabdahbriah wrote:Been watching this thread with interest, and though I have yet to get Modular, I would get around this (personally) by loading it into Cantabile (32/64-bit) which works as a Vst(i) (sub-host) in whatever DAW, as it does save both fxp, and fxb. Oh, I agree with you completely. Though frequently related, poorly implemented browsers (pet peeve #1), and preset/patch management (pet peeve #2), are really inexcusable.fmr wrote:There are workarounds, for sure. FWIW, that's our every day price when you use coupon code "Group". When it was on sale, it was $63 with that coupon code.Numanoid wrote:Plugin Discount got it on sale at just $75 at the moment.

My demo ran out some time ago, and besides, I'm still a beginner with pure synthesis, but I was wondering if it's possible to create anything musical with this or if it's all fart noises and experimental patches.

it's a bit of a learning curve.
I've been using synths for 20 years now, and dabbling in modular on and off…
but putting say - a dub chord patch together in Modular, for me, takes FOREVER.
Once they get a preset browser happening it will be a whole lot easier, i hope.
really, you can make ANY sound with it. It's possible, just a f**king mission!

This is a very common question. The short answer is that yes, of course it is possible to create musical patches with a modular, just like any other musical instrument. You can patch up drum sounds, bass sounds, lead sounds, even polyphonic pads and keys if you have enough modules and time. But the real question is, why would you? Why expend all that time and effort just to make a basic synth sound which can be found elsewhere with much greater ease?Blue Phase Music wrote:My demo ran out some time ago, and besides, I'm still a beginner with pure synthesis, but I was wondering if it's possible to create anything musical with this or if it's all fart noises and experimental patches.
The whole point of a modular, IMHO, is to discover the sounds which your average monsynth or polysynth is not capable of. Branching out from the predetermined architecture and signal path and exploring the possibilities which you've never had access to before. Very often, this is going to lead you in directions which some might describe as "non-musical". I find these noisy journeys into sonic exploration to be the true nature and character of modular synths. That palette of sounds which is solely the domain of the modular is what defines it.
If you have no interest in that sort of thing, you can still use a modular in whatever musical way you want. The choice is yours. But I wouldn't recommend it. These things beg for experimentation, and the person who that appeals to will be one most likely to benefit from their modular.

Thank you for your honest replies.
I think I'm better served with Reaktor 6, for now. Perhaps I'll come back to this at some other point when I'm more skilled.

Yeah reaktor 6 is more powerfull , but the workflow is not very helpful in a middle of a session.Blue Phase Music wrote:Thank you for your honest replies.

I v'e played with modular since the day it was released (i got everymodule available , intellijel,softube...).I 've recently understand that modular is made to don't made ' conventional synth sound ' and the workflow is just perfect for this usage.
The intellijel filter is just amazing....
Modular need some improvement like a real preset manager and a reset button on every sequencer modules...
