I prefer Service Center too as I can download the updates to the desktop, copy them to my backup server and then install them. Native Access starts the install right after download so I have to be quick.

But the first time I ran NA it showed me an update for Reaktor 6 that SC didn't.
You can still download updates individually.

I had to refresh the database in Kontakt standalone and also in Komplete Kontrol in order for my current projects to play properly. There were a few tense moments after the update but things are working out nicely now.

Post

Did you find the database refresh in Kontakt quicker than usual? It seemed to be far quicker when I did it myself in the standalone.

Hm - those tiny colour dots on top of the keys makes it definitely harder to see the different key groups.
That seems quite idiotic if I may say so, probably to make it look more like their christmas-tree-LED keyboards?
Since the keys don't really serve any other purpose than showing those keygroups, that is a pretty dumb step.
Normally NI does better GUIs I'd say.
Limiting the size horizontally isn't really clever either - could have been nice to have several tabs open at once on wider screens or several rows of instruments for people who use many in one instance.

Well, I only use Kontakt as a "player" anyway - the GUI was always a pain IMO and the "improvements" don't change that to the better.

Falcon FTW ;-)

Cheers,

I've updated but I'm no convinced it's worked as Kontakt looks no different apart from the very top bar, there doesn't seem to be any screenshots anywhere to show what it should look like. My about shows 5.6, so at least it thinks it's updated. I also tried setting script width to 1000 which was accepted, but the width remained the same, the extra height is working though.

Could someone upload a screenshot of the new graphics please?

Kraznet posted one on page 3 of this Thread.

thanks, but I actually meant the instrument editing screen, is it just the factory content guis that have changed?

Post

My bad. Sorry.

I'm literally just heading out the door. All I know off hand is what I got in the email:
The free 5.6 update provides KONTAKT 5 with an updated user interface. The update also brings improvements to stability and a number of important bug fixes. KONTAKT instrument developers now benefit from a number of new KSP features, allowing larger available screen space for user interfaces and improved instrument building workflow.
My own concern was getting back up and running asap. I don't know enough about the innards to answer your question. I assume another contributor to this Thread will know better than me.

I liked the previous keyboard with whole colored keys more. Maybe its still available somewhere in options?
And did they changed the font? I have trouble reading it now.
Otherwise i dont mind the flat gui,for once, i find the contrast to be ok (for me and myself^^)

I use Ableton as well and a custom folder for vst/vsti and have no idea how, but installation created a copy of my custom folder with only new kontakt dlls there. I put those back in the proper folder and voilà.
Check if installation hasnt created such files. Hope this helps.

Is Live looking for the DLL, AU or VST file in a different folder to where the NI installer has put it?

Well, it was when I downloaded the update... that's the thing. I had Service Center set to just dwnload to my desktop and I used to run the wizard and direct it to my vst folder... but now the updates don't ask for a path. I changed the path in Service Center afterward but now I can't download the update again and retry it. Just went through this the other day updating Reaktor but I can't remember how I fixed it. Seem updating NI has become a convoluted mess! :/

If you are thinking you are helping anybody, go look at the utter nonsense on the Maschine forum, where two NI staff completely contradict what the other has said they are collecting, the more honest one saying it has nothing to do with customer requests or usage or bug tracking, it has more to do with location tracking and where the marketing money should be spent.

Where did it put the new updated dlls?

Post

Native Access has the dll locations, please check to make sure it is indeed putting the vst stuff where you expect them to.

Have you tried doing a command search for Kontakt5.dll and sort them by date?

In mycase, it was kind of random, and it probably change beetween users, the installer created a folder and threw it onmy second harddrive.

Usually i have separate folders, for vst and vsti, that structure is more convenient for me, but it means updates requires extra effort as updaters often get lost^^.

So it was put under some folder on my second hardrive.
Lets say you used something like D:\NovasonMusic\VST64\NovasonVSTi

The installer would have created a second NovationVSTi folder with only updated kontakt.dll on a location like D:\NovasonVSTi.
