Excellent. I don't need it right now but will grab a copy just in case I need it one day. Thanks from me. :tu:

- It doesn't work with third party libraries.
- It so far doesn't show you an info button for updates, so you don't know what's new.

I hope they will make NA into more of a command centre where you can do actual maintenance like uninstalling, changing paths etc. ATM it's a bit dumb.
I also suggested the option for individual installation paths for the products/libraries and they said it would be considered.
I would assume that NA will replace SC when it's complete.

Cheers,

I don't care that it's 2D but it is an ugly gui, the font in particular is poorly chosen and too small and not anti aliased on my screen. I also dislike the tendency to rely entirely on icons now for functions.

I had no big problems here with Native Access, except two older Magware products are listed as demo, while they work fine in Service Center.

It does not install to a wrong location, it does not install at all after erasing the current version, because vst is opted out and there is no way to opt in.

This is badly coded rubbish.

You are left without vst and have no installer to sort it out.
This is one of the worst update experiences I have had so far.

Oh and the tiny little colour chip at the top instead of the full sized key switches is stupid. Far harder to see where you are.

This is, for me, the biggest (and perhaps the only real serious) remark I have regarding this new version.

I'll confess I'm getting a little concerned about NI. Although some of the scripting of their recent releases has been excellent, much of the software itself seems poorly thought out. Kontrol is still diabolical after 2 years. K 5.6 seems more notable for what it has taken away - a readable font and multi purging - than any tangible benefits. I can't think of a single benefit actually - some like the new UI, some don't, but no functionality is improved either way. OK, there are some scripting improvements, but oddly I think that's a bad thing, because some devs will shortly be releasing libraries that require 5.6, a worse product than 5.5. And finally Kontakt 6 appears to be having major problems of its own.

NI seem to have lost their mojo. What's going on over there in Berlin?

Well, a handful of my third party libraries can longer be found without doing a manual search every time now. Added/re-scanned the appropriate path back into the database that this update seemed to reset and to no avail. It does start faster, but the time saved in start up is more than completely lost by the time it takes to find the samples now. Guess I'll have to take the time of reinstalling the previous working version now.

I haven't downloaded it yet, as I will not be able to use it because of those "tiny little colour chips". Just looking at the screen-grab image on page three of this thread, necessitated my response on page 8.

I've posted a petition thread on the NI forum:

Might be a long shot, but what you could try is deleting the Registry key for Kontakt 5. Start Regedit and locate the following path: "HKLM\Software\Native Instruments". Here is an entry for each NI product, which is left even after uninstalling something. Right click on the "Kontakt 5" entry, export it for a backup just in case, then right click again on it and delete the entry. This makes it appear as not installed in Native Access and hopefully it will install with the VST versions then. If this did not work, import your backup by double clicking the exported "*.reg" file. I've also appended a screenshot as reference.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

It is not only Kontakt but everything that got updarted through NI Access

...doesn't need to be that way. What I have heard was that they were working on some bold features that ultimately didn't work out.

Generelly speaking, I think that's also development work - sometimes things actually need to be built, before, unfortunately, you're able to tell with absolute certainty that this or that won't work or affects these or those things. Some scenarios can't be solved theoretically or some aspects can only be discovered along the way - and I was told this had been the case here. I think, customers often don't seem to take this into account. I once read a comment from a library developer here (think, it was Mike Green), that he's telling his customers that they're not only paying him for the results he delivers, but also for the time he needs to rule out things to get there...

I can find nothing on their site that is a downloadable update.

And still no reply from Native Instruments to support request send 3 days ago. Thanks for the warm and fuzzy feeling NI.
