I Can't Record Audio in the New MuLab

The title says pretty much all.
I use MuLab for quite a while now. Always recorded in it without problems. I updated recently. I didn't want to update in the middle of a project, just to be safe, but I've tested the new MuLab at my job computer and liked the new look, so I said "what a heck" and updated it at home studio.
Big mistake!
Now I'm running late with a project, spent 2 hours trying to figure out why is not recording and in one hour I'll be off. Last chance to record will be tomorrow, then in about 2 weeks... maybe... I really need to record today.
HEEEELP :help:

Hi sorohanro,
try to give a look at this topic viewtopic.php?f=79&t=466184
I hope that helps

Thanks for the links.
I think is very counter-intuitive now. This also means that all my old project where I had routings, mic selections...etc, now I'll have to start from scratch?

You are welcome ,
beyond the new features for audio recording the old functions are still there,
so if I'm not mistaken your M6 project should still work in M7 with the same setup.

Post

Sorohanro, first of all please try recording a bit of audio in a new M7 project. Does that work fine?

If yes, then is the issue especially about opening existing M6 audio recording projects?

Post

Another question: You say you're in the middle of an important project. So why don't you simply continue in M6 atm? As you know you can have different MuLab versions at the same time on your system, no problem, they're simply installed in different folders. If necessary you can redownload M6 from
http://www.mutools.com/mulab/legacy-versions/
Does this help to solve the urgency?
And when you have a bit of relaxed time soon, we can have a detailed zoom in on your M6 -> M7 case.

That was exactly what I did. Thanks :)

That was my problem to start with. I opened the old project, hit "record" and... nothing appeared. Checked the mic, cables, soundcard, the setup of the program... everything looked normal in MuLab, the recorder was in place, the routing used to record my brass and guitar. Tried again... nothing... Couldn't understand why. After 2 hours of fiddling with the settings, checking and double checking the cables, the preamp, the microphone and all the jazz, I came online to see what's up with that.

There indeed might be an issue when opening M6 audio recording projects into M7 cause of the changed strategy. Nothing is lost but the track recording controls do not appear for M6 audio tracks and when hitting record the newly recorded audio parts do not appear in the composer cause there are no M7 audio tracks yet. I'm currently working on M7.1, mainly a serious update of MuLab for Mac, but it will also contain extra support for opening M6 audio recording projects in M7. Stay tuned.

@sorohanro
I'm sorry for the inconvenience, happy to see that you have found a solution atm.
I use almost exclusively the new audio recording system and I was not aware of the issue just mentioned by Jo.

I wasn't aware either, until sorohanro mentioned this now.

I'm sorry it takes some time but it was about this choice:

Option 1: Drop the Mac version in some near future, because the OSX Carbon legacy subsystem gets more and more deprecated and all computers and VST plugins are more and more 64 bit only, and Carbon is 32 bit only, and using Carbon gave more and more compatibility issues as Apple does not support it anymore. So there would only be MuLab for Windows.

Option 2: Rewrite the whole Mac specific code layer so it uses Cocoa so to get MuLab for Mac up to date with Mac OSX.

It is option 2.
So soon there will be a MuLab 64 bit for Mac.
A test version will be available one of the days.

Post

Just out of interest - in terms of testing the coming release - how much impact is the Cocoa support having on the Windows code?

Post

Good question. Well generally there should be little impact on the Windows version, but i reorganized certain code sections in order to maintain a good structure with as much platform independent code as possible, and so it will be good if the M7.1 Windows version is well tested too. It's also my intention to add a couple of other improvements to M7.1 so that this update will be interesting to everyone, both Mac and Windows users.

Like time stretching? :hihi:
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here? :D ShawnG

I imagine that this required an hard work,
I think it was the right choice, another big step for Mulab and I hope that Mac users will be happy :tu:
Unfortunately I can not test the new version for Mac but I am ready for 7.1 for Windows!
Thanks Jo!
