I like the idea of just flipping open a laptop, starting up Live 4 and playing my songs. I'd consider Replicator as an addon but if I were going to carry a separate monitor, keyboard and mouse along with Rep to a gig then I might as well take my PC.

You can also get those small micro tower desktop computers like the Musicxpc C1 or C2. Very quiet and easy to carry to gigs. $1300-1800 USD

Hi all,

like TC I´ve did Multis for the Receptor. From the very first day I didn´t compare this device with a laptop. Surely there´s a computer processor under the hood, but in my BMW is one too and that doesn´t make it comparable to a laptop. The Receptor is totally easy to handle, everything is built-in when you open the package and you can plug it and play it instantly. This makes it an extremely easy-to-use tool and the tool is expandable with the VSTs you already own. A simple ethernet connection to the home pc and the devices can communicate, a dream came true for a computer dummy like me. The GUI is the same concept: Clear and simple, like a Combi or Performance memory of a Motif or something like that, but on a large screen, and this makes the setting very quick. All this handling is so time saving that music making was the first thing I´ve did with the Receptor, although my job was making Multis.

Hope this short overview helps a little to get a brief impression how this thing is working in the real world.

I inquired about this device a long time ago, and asked whether I could load some of my VSTs into it... that's when I encountered the "licensing" problem/dilemma... and hence why there are only a bunch of freeware plugs included. I was told that certain companies (guess who) would, of course not let their plugs be used/licensed for the device... that was 6 months ago, but I can see the problem inherent with the design... I.E. if you have your plugs loaded on your PC, can you load them into this device too... and take them with you, of course and plug it into many other computers???

How does the network connection interact with receptor? Is it midi, is it for dumping vsts ?

...That's what I asked about! I mean what good is it, if you can't load the good stuff on it?? Maybe I didn't understand what they were talking about, but it sounded to me like you couldn't just load any plugs you own, because of licensing conflicts... And considering most of the good synths already have FX, were talking CPU efficiency... Pretty expensive for multis... Hmmm... you can buy a multi-timbral synth for that... no cpu load!
