yeah there's an option to turn the search of and do manual rescans once you installed new stuff

Well, any other program would take just as long, were it to do the proper scan, and all the rest of them are short because it's disabled by default on theirs.
I think it's pretty fine the way it is... I mean, the MOST it's ever taken me is 2 minutes, which I agree can seem pretty painful...
But to put things into perspective-- I used to wait 8 minutes just to load "Frogger" on the C-64 with a tape machine.

I remember as kids my brother would load up Archon on c-64, and we'd go for supper, or go play outside for 15-20min til the damn thing loaded
I remember we had only one game on tape: Bruce Lee.. Not sure if we ever did get it loaded though

By the time Bruce Lee came out, I had a disc drive (the 1540, I believe it was called). That was one of the best games EVER-- eventually games had better graphics (Karateka), but rarely did they have better game-play.
Another solution, rpc-- if you're like me, you have literally hundreds of plugins installed-- get rid of the ones you never use-- put them into a different folder and just re-include that folder's path should you decide to muck around with them.
