how do i send midi to external gear?

following is in m7 instructions but i don't get it. i assume i need to add a module. which module is it?

from m7 docs:
"To send MIDI output from MuLab to your external MIDI gear, first make sure you've enabled the relevant MIDI ports via the main MuLab menu -> MIDI Setup. Then in the Project Modular Area, each Event Output module can be mapped to any of the enabled MIDI output ports. To do so edit (double-click) the Project Event Output module. These Project Event Output modules can be used as a direct target for tracks (eg drop it on a track), and/or it can be used as an output for racks, and it can also be used as a target for sending MIDI clock. To set the MIDI clock output module, right-click the tempo display in the transport panel. If you want to send MIDI clock to multiple MIDI outputs then use a 'proxy' Patch Point module and connect it to all the MIDI outputs you want to send MIDI clock to."

After setting the MIDI outputs in the midi setup go to the modular area,
the module is called "project event output"
It is already present in the modular area when you start a new project,double-click or right-click on it and select the device, after these steps in the compose right-click on the track and select the target midi.
I hope this helps :)

ok. thanks. once midi channel is selected the user needs to connect it to a rack in modular area for it to work. the docs don't explain it and it should work without having to set it up. i say this cos new users would expect it to work without setting it up. the modular approach is great, but basic stuff should just work so it doesn't put off new users.

i said the same about audio recording while back. it was updated and now works really well without new users having to tweak anything. same should apply for external midi recording.

1) Make sure that in MuLab's MIDI setup you have enabled the MIDI outputs you wanna use. Only has to be done once.
2) In your project, make sure there is a MIDI output module in the Modular Area. Double-click it to choose one of the enabled MIDI outputs.
3) Set track target to that MIDI out module: Right-click track -> Choose Target -> Project MUX -> MIDI output. Or drag-drop the MIDI out module on the track.

That's it.
It's an ok system i think.

I've updated the relevant doc page as it indeed was too brief.

ok. i just followed those instructions but there's a last step where the user needs to connect the midi output module to a rack to get it to work.

No, a rack is not necessary, it's an option. You can directly target MIDI output modules from tracks, no need for a rack.

ok. got it working now. thank you

The "anomaly" is that "Master" in the factory New.MuTemplate gets wired up automatically to the audio output but not to the event output.
