10% CPU-usage for an init-saw and nearly 20% for an supersaw

on my computer (which is a 3 year old intel 4core 3ghz) it takes 3% INIT and 4% with 5xSupersaw. Reverb turned off. With Reverb it takes globally 2% more. You (&me) dont know the computer which has been used in this video.
Generally, when creating the factory preset library, we always tried to stay below 10% usage per preset for a "normal" playing style (playing 3-4 notes). Of course there are some complex presets which need more than 10%.
It all depends on the preset. You can easily create very much %CPU, when using 8 OSCs, each with 7x Supersaw and 4x chorder, playing then 5 Notes simultaneously... in this case its simple math: 8x7x4x5=1120 OSCs which are playing then (!) This uses 67% CPU on my computer btw... just tried it.
Like I said earlier we do not want to set limits, which avoids this. If the user have the right machine, why shouldn't he do it. You could also "freeze" or sub-bounce such heavy osc tracks. Furthermore the computers will get better and better in the next years.
But what I really recommend is at least 12gb of RAM
furthermore what I can say, that we won't release a 32bit version any more. Its technically not feasible. 64bit only. VST, VST3, AU, AAX

no, to be able to use multiple instances, and other plugins all at once

You have made some excellent expansions for Nexus, such as Sound of the 90s, Hollywood bundle, Analog etc.
Will you release similar expansions for Avenger (for us old timers that are not so much into modern sounds
)?

May I ask, the sounds in that 1.5 long hour demo are mostly synthesised or sample based (escept for pianos, drums and the like, ofc)?
The RAM requirements are brutal (especially considering that my other planned purchase, the Viper synth, is going to be 32 bit only). This should mean that the factory presets heavily rely on samples?
Junging from these demos, i'm not sure if Avenger handles extreme modulations (ultrafast LFOs, anrgy FM sounds etc) really well. This is important for many psytrance sounds.

Yeah I noticed too. And almost 30% when the Euro preset was running. It's brutal. I don't know how powerful the dude's computer is in this video, but that's the thing that users will have to watch with this VSTi.MirkoVanHauten wrote:10% CPU-usage for an init-saw and nearly 20% for an supersawwow
I'd say wherever the waveform looks like a sample, it's probably a sample, and you can see the vertical bar moving along the sample when it's being played. Wherever the waveform looks like an OSC wave (usually a line), it's probably an OSC.recursive one wrote:May I ask, the sounds in that 1.5 long hour demo are mostly synthesised or sample based (escept for pianos, drums and the like, ofc)?

Well, it is not easy to draw a line between a sample and a complex waveform, but when the imprortant characteristics of the resulting sound come from the synth engine (osillator effects, filters, unison etc) then the patch is synthesised, and when it all comes from the sample, then it's sampled

So how much RAM does one instance use? 500 MB?msvs wrote:no, to be able to use multiple instances, and other plugins all at once

So 12gb is NOT minimum requirement thenmsvs wrote:no, to be able to use multiple instances, and other plugins all at once
Why not state the facts? You dont know how many instances a user will load, or what other plugins they will use.

I don't think I've been this hyped for a synth (hardware or software) ever before. This truly does look like the be-all/end-all synth. Now if it ever gets to version 2.0 with complex multisampling and scripting it'd even kill Kontakt / Falcon.
Man, this is just awesome!
@Manuel: One thing that quite a few synths miss is the ability to force an Envelope to be monophonic and to be re-triggered on every note down. Is this possible in Avenger? It may seem like an odd request but it can be used to create some wonderfully playable presets.. I take it that if I modulate some effects parameters with an envelope that it becomes automatically monophonic as the effects are global, right? The important bit is that the envelope needs to be properly retriggered every note-on, no matter where in the decay/sustain/release cycle it is.
