I finally figured out that Smex means "SmartElectronix".



And here I was ready to go ballistic for some amazing developer I'd never heard of.

Instead, I'm reminded that this is an amazing collective of developers and I've not only heard of, but use extensively.

Save the $20 for a down-payment on either a cheapie mixer for guitar/bass/vocal input, or EVE, depending on what kind of music I was going to make.

... If you plan to get a soundcard then many have some software included (Creative cards used to be packaged with Cubasis, Wavelab Light and Recycle)...

My copy of Cubasis CE (Creative Edition) was such a crash happy piece of shit that I reckon it set me back a hell of a long way before I started to understand making music on my computer. That experience has taught me to be wary of OEM software with no access to updates to fix bugs etc (in fact, no access to upgrades either... ).
