Please by all means post a list(SE plugs doesn't count though.jens wrote:Tracktion suffers from amnesia with a lot of plugins.
Do you want me to list them here?
I never had a similar problem with any other host.![]()
But yes, of course it's not Tracktion's fault.
Flaw...or bug in Final Mix?

I haven't had the problem before now, either.
Jens is experiencing uber-backlash and is now losing objectivity.
I'm willing to believe it's T's fault. On the other hand, I'd also entertain the possibility that it's similar to webpages that load fine in IE but not in Opera. Just because the host won't load plugins that deviate from the VST standard doesn't *necessarily* make it the host's fault, either.
I'm no programmer, so I'd be willing to entertain either possibility.
In the meantime, I'd just prefer that either Jules OR Mackie (or both) address the problem so that the flaw is addressed and this can become a mainstay in my setup.

Yes please... if there are known issues with certain plugs even for a few Tracktion users it would be useful to know...so which plugs have you had problems with in Tracktion?

O.k. - just a few examples because you asked for it
:
- AnalogDelay for example:
Tracktion doesn't remember much of the settings and you can't even load preset-files you've saved with Tracktion (though you can load them with other hosts)
- in fact you can load the presets, but only after you reinitialised the plugin (e.g. replace it with itself)
http://mdsp.smartelectronix.com/AnalogDelay.htm
- Kiesel Delay:
Tracktion completely forgets the delay-time-settings.
Tracktion can't write presets at all. (the plugin-id in the presets is wrong)
- The Waldorf PPG bug is widely known and accepted.
- Smartelectronix (Alex) GalactiX
Tracktion can't load the presets.
Dash Signature Eve:
Tracktion canm't write presets.(the plugin-id in the presets is wrong)

Waldorf PPG is one of most well-known plugins that suffers for its own bugginess. It's a trouble maker for some other hosts as well.
With all respect to the genius of the devs you mentioned, occasionally some of their plugins are not that all-round tested. If you want to hear more, drop me a message and we can talk in private. It's a sensitive topic.
If you really want to beat up some hosts, I'm sure you can beat up pretty much all of them. E.g., there was a plugin that I beta-ed can't exchange the patch/bank format between all the hosts I have. There is a host that after several years of development still screws up VSTi's patch/bank upon export(no it's not tracktion). Things like that happen to many host and plug devs.
I'm not saying Trackton is flawless or all the fault lies with the plugin devs. What I'm saying is your statement may not be as correct as you thought...

Thanks Jens...I think Galactix is the only one of those I have, but it's good to know anyway even if it only affects a few.jens wrote:O.k. - just a few examples because you asked for it

Tony, all I wrote was:

That's just a personal fact for me.

I never stated that other hosts might not have such problems and I never stated that all the plugins are perfectly coded.Tracktion suffers from Amnesia with a lot of plugins

I have experienced some very weirdness writing presets from Tracktion. In EVE for sure, and I think a few others (crystal, perhaps).
I think the situation was they would load fine back into Tracktion, but try to load them into Chainer or any other host just caused a insta-crash. I remember liqih telling us at the time "just don't make presets in Tracktion"

It certainly isn't a CPU hog, but if causes your P4 to denormalise that's going to be the reason CPU usage appears high to you. You should chase Mackie up about that. There is no excuse for plugins that cause P4s to denormalise this late in the day.Koorby wrote:I find FM to be a big CPU hog, and on my P4 laptop it denormalises like crazy. I'll stick with KA Master Limiter + mda Dither until I save up for T-RackS or FinalPlug
Now why on earth would you want to dither pre-limiter?And what the hell? No built-in dithering for CD mastering - I wouldn't pay $399 for this as a commercial package. Good thing it's a freebie then.
Dithering needs to be the *very* last thing that happens to audio before it gets bounced to 16bits. Personally I distrust the idea of dither plugs anyway. I'd far rather have the dither be part of the bit reduction process. For that reason I'd use Tracktion's built in dither mode or shell out a 32bit wav file to some other app to be cruched to 16bits.
Someone shot the food. Remember: don't shoot food!

Agree with your point (prefer to dither within Tracktion), but isn't FM also a master limiter? Or would one expect to put a limiter after it?valley wrote: Now why on earth would you want to dither pre-limiter?![]()
edit: FM bumps up cpu by 15-20% on my notebook. Not too bad.

Although ,when a project is saved with
a user preset in Mackie's final mix, upon
reloading the project the preset has changed to
the first factory preset, It seems to be only the name that has been reset as the final mix parameters
are those that have been saved with the project.
so only a minor bug i would say
