Next Mac version is further optimized and also features improved floating windows behavior ie when switching to another app the floating windows auto-hide. The update will be available soon. Also the new M7.1 for Windows version is getting closer.

There is a new MuLab 7.1.14 for Mac 64 bit: http://www.mutools.com/galaxa/mulab-7-1 ... 64-app.zip
How to install: Replace the current MuLab 7.1.9 .app file with this new version.
This new Mac version fixes a bug that could lead to project/preset files that could not be reopened. This new version also is further optimized for inxcreased UI speed & snappiness, has streamlined behavior wrt the floating editor windows and improves several other aspects.
If there are any remaining issues, pls let me know.

There is a new MuLab 7.1.15 for Mac 64 bit: http://www.mutools.com/galaxa/mulab-7-1 ... 64-app.zip
How to install: Replace the current M7.1.x MuLab.app file with this new version.
I received reports about M7.1.14 being slower on certain OSX versions. This new version uses another strategy to do certain things. Please let me know whether M7.1.15 runs fine on your Mac and also mention which OSX version you're running it on. I really need feedback from different Mac OSX versions. Thanks.

I'm back on 10.9.5 until the .1 release of Sierra.
.15 is awesome! No saving issues so far and the slow GUI animations from .14 and earlier are gone. CPU usage is even a tad better than the 32-bit version.
One small issue though that I have been noticing. The first time I play a track, when the VSTs on that track first start to run, the audio glitches slightly as they grab their resources. Anytime after that, there's no issue on playback. I have not heard this issue with the 32-bit version at all.

I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better?

Jepps, version works better on mac 10.9x
Problem since first 64bit version. It don't start on MAC 10.6.8 at all (and maybe OS-versions below?)
Do you can look into this problem? (hopefully it will NOT be by design)

I don't see much difference in speed between M7.1.14 and M7.1.15 on OSX 10.12 Sierra but have noticed that each successive release 7.1.9, 7.1.14, 7.1.15 appears to have slightly more of a processor hit. Unfortunately it looks like M7.0.47 has better performance on my core2duo iMac. I tested by playing the Airtime demo at 300bpi, comparing the Average/Max CPU values and listening for audio break up - M7.0.47 was more forgiving than the others.
I can also confirm that M7.1 does not launch at all in OSX 10.6 Snow leopard. Jo, if there are any specific OSX versions you want M7.1 tested on, I can also install OSX 10.8, 10.9, 10.10, 10.11 on a partition (but only one OS at a time) if required.

If by performance you mean the speed of accessing the interface, I agree that in the M7.1 versions of MuLab the interface is much more responsive but the downside appears to be more of a processor hit and that's why I am hearing more audio break up compared to M7.0.47.

MuLab 7.1.15 runs fine on OSX 10.6.8 here. Are you sure your 10.6.8 mac is a 64 bit system? If not the MuLab 7.1 app icon will be grayed out and slashed.jd88 wrote:Problem since first 64bit version. It don't start on MAC 10.6.8 at all
Note that the minimum OSX version for the new M7.1 is OSX 10.6.8.and maybe OS-versions below?

Good news, thanks for your feedback.syntonica wrote:I'm back on 10.9.5 until the .1 release of Sierra.

I don't know why, don't see any reason on MuLab's side. May be because it's 64 bit now. Or maybe you have other open apps in the background. Pls be sure to compare in exact same conditions. Simply opening a web browser may already make a big difference in performance. One small issue though that I have been noticing. You know what: M7.1.14 was the fastest version of all on my OSX 10.11 here. But then i received feedback that that same M7.1.14 was not running well on previous OSX versions. One thing is sure: OSX is the most erratic platform i encountered in my whole software r&d life. I will surely not be able to make MuLab perfect for each individual OSX version, the only thing i'll try to do is to get it (very) good on all OSX versions.Calum wrote:I don't see much difference in speed between M7.1.14 and M7.1.15 on OSX 10.12 Sierra
I repeated the performance test playing the Dream Of The Piano demo project from bar 10 (loop start) on. It is equal between M7.0.47 32 bit and M7.1.15 64 bit (the latter even a tad better).but have noticed that each successive release 7.1.9, 7.1.14, 7.1.15 appears to have slightly more of a processor hit. Unfortunately it looks like M7.0.47 has better performance on my core2duo iMac.
When you compare CPU usage values pls be sure to use the exact same audio setup. Also make sure not to use all cores for audio, leave at least 1 (real) core for the UI. That's just a practical recommendation.
Can't repeat that here.I tested by playing the Airtime demo at 300bpi, comparing the Average/Max CPU values and listening for audio break up - M7.0.47 was more forgiving than the others.
Is it on a 64 bit system? If yes, what exactly happens? Eventually post a screen video?I can also confirm that M7.1 does not launch at all in OSX 10.6 Snow leopard.
Thanks for your kind offer Calum, i appreciate. If that's not too much trouble for you, i'm surely interested how M7.1.15 runs on all OSX versions. I also welcome all feedback from other OSX users so to build an 'averaged' view on how MuLab 7.1 is doing on all OSX versions together. For OSX is a very volatile and erratic platform to try getting M7.1 'perfect' on each and every OSX version. I will do my best to get it (very) good on all OSX versions. Don't forget that even big companies like Roland and Native Instruments have given up relative recent Mac OSX versions quite fast. For example Roland SH 201 cannot be used on recent OSX versions, NI Komplete 7 cannot be used on recent OSX versions, etc. These are just two examples out of many, if you don't know what i mean, pls check the web. It's incredible that the music world is accepting this, i really don't understand the tolerance for such an erratic OS behaviour. Why do i say this? Because it's an important fact to be taken into account when evaluating the new MuLab for OSX. Pls don't focus on MuLab alone, but pls also take the volatile OSX into account. I cannot and will not make a version that is perfect for each individual OSX version, i'm trying to average out the OSX volatility and make an 'averaged' version that runs (very) good on all OSX versions (10.6.8 or up). It's the only way to keep MuLab on Mac. The previous M7.0.47 32 bit Carbon version was getting close to an end anyway, cfr the issues with white windowing VST plugins (not a MuLab bug, but users think it's MuLab's fault), not being able to run 64 bit plugins. So going Cocoa 64 bit was the only way forward. And that's where we're now. Conclusion: Please keep on posting as much feedback as possible on M7.1.15 (and up) for OSX and i'll continue to do my best to make it as good as reasonably possible. Soon i really must get this to an end and continue on the real thing: sound and music.Jo, if there are any specific OSX versions you want M7.1 tested on, I can also install OSX 10.8, 10.9, 10.10, 10.11 on a partition (but only one OS at a time) if required.

I'm amazed to read this cause in fact all the works i do wrt this new M7.1 for OSX 64 bit have almost nothing to do with the audio engine, it's all about the UI part. Is this on the very same system with the very same audio setup?Calum wrote:If by performance you mean the speed of accessing the interface, I agree that in the M7.1 versions of MuLab the interface is much more responsive but the downside appears to be more of a processor hit and that's why I am hearing more audio break up compared to M7.0.47.

Try hitting "Software Update" to check is your system up to date, got fresh system few days ago, there are one round of updates more after 10.6.8 v1.1 combined, I know Cthulhu's installer have issue without that updates installed too.

This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here?
