As a Reaper user, the bridging thing is no big deal (the only inconvenience is that clicking on the interface of a bridged plugin takes focus away from the DAW, so that keyboard shortcuts for transport controls don't work until you click in the DAW again). I'd surely rather use a bridged 32-bit "Virus" than the hardware, but it pretty much stands or falls on the plugin sounding close enough to the Virus to truly take its place for the kinds of sounds I like most from the TI. Mostly getting the correct kind of "rubbery thwack" from plucky sounds. As well as the sort of dusty sparkle you get from patches like "Prions" and the right kind of silky sheen from pads like "NinthHvn." Other existing software synths can do their own versions of things like that which are arguably just as good in their own right, but they don't have quite the same character as the Virus.

I think it's cool to see this being done at all (surprised someone didn't long before now), and that this one at least will probably actually see the light of day before we're all getting around with walkers and wearing Life Alerts.

Interestingly, it was Adam's Virus-esque soundsets for Zebra and Massive that, at least in part, persuaded me I really didn't need a TI the first time I had one years ago. (I only picked up a Snow again recently because I could get it cheap enough this time to for it to be worth having that non-essential but still-agreeable sound back on my palette.)

im curious how this plugin will turn out. If it will work stable and i will be able to replicate my virus patches to plugin ill be getting then. Virus Ti works stable here, at least most of the time, but those Sync Errors driving me nuts.

I just stumbled on this thread. Seen some of the back and forth on the 32 bit thing. Don't get discouraged. I bridge a ton of plugs using jbridge in S1 Pro and this thing looks fantastic. Will definitely be buying.
Even I was offended by what I was going to put here.

Eh, what a waste of potential.

No doubt, but looks can deceive, what matters is the sound aint it ?

BTW: Can it be used to make Scooter-type sounds like: vipah vipah :D

Would love to hear some more sound demos. :)

Sure, I can do some more virus patch recreations. If anyone with a virus wants me to convert some factory patches, I can, however it must not use any wavetables in the classic osc (since I cant include them), and only use the classic or hypersaw osc.

Very impressive job! It sounds fantastic, I can imagine the huge amount of hours it took.

I am curious what the CPU usage is going to be on this?

Post

Did you learn to program just for VST's? Or could you already program when you released your first tracks (like arcade and altra). By the way I get so hyped every time I hear one of your track pass in any of the trance radioshows and podcasts. Your trance has become very important in my life since I have always loved the melody in keygen music but never liked the sound and your trance was the first to fix that. And lego is one of my all time favorite trance tracks! I hope you will become a bigger and bigger name in the future.

I still use a x32 DAW. The outright hostility here is puzzling

Well if 11 sounds better then 10 then obviously 64 sounds even better then 32, no?
The only thing that bugs me now are like reverb plugins that only have a 32 bit version. I tend to use a lot of reverb plugins in any given track before I clean them up and replace all the reverb with just 2 or 3 and then use sends. And when the bridging steals away a bit of cpu which can become a problem if you use a lot of instances of a certain 32 bit plugin in your 64 bit DAW.

What I like about bridged plugins though it that with procceshacker I can see how much RAM each plugin uses. It would be nice if FL Studio could show us how much RAM each plugin is using to help with running out of memory problems. (I think I am killing my SSD. I have 4 GB of RAM and some of of my projects use around 6GB meaning that the pagefile on my SSD is very very active and causing lots of writes.)

Back on topic, Viper sounds really cool. But I would like to hear some audio demo's (as in some trance melodies) or did I miss those?

I can certainly see the potential in this Synth.
It looks like a lot of very hard work has gone into every aspect of its design.

We have seen a lot of Synths utilize Adam's Supersaw design, often without very little credit.

I would like to see this Synth re-imagined and re-coded for true 64 bit but in the meanwhile it
would seem to be the closest emulation of the Virus we currently have apart from perhaps Spire?

Post

Spire is the closest thing to Virus we currently have in software, but is not a Virus emulation. Apart from the hypersaw and the infecto filter nothing was directly copied from Virus. From what was announced here, Viper should be much closer in features and probably in sound.
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try
