caustic is fun on my kindle, nothing exciting but not bad...I have it on my laptop but forget it's there...it was so cheap (under five bux I think) for the kindle I thought what the hell? You really dont need much of an overview, a few simple synths, a simple drum machine, mixer...the modular synth is interestinginkwarp wrote:damn i knew there was something i was missing all this time.if you really got to have something darlin', be sure to buy the best. Just a likable, seemingly perpetually intoxicated British guy whom I've know
for about 10 years. He has a wife, a daughter and a little dog. Interestingly, although
the dog doesn't bite, I have been bitten by his 25 year old daughter a couple times.
Anyway, believe it or not, regardless of what you may read. He uses his
Iphone, when at home. Before that I imagine he used a tape recorder.

This is the band hes in... http://ironmaiden.com

And I suppose when you mentioned the more than 40 albums, you were referring the band albums, which were not made with iPhone or anything alike, AFAIK. Now talk about misinformationpekbro wrote: This is the band hes in... http://ironmaiden.com

I'm saying when hes at home working or writing or whatever, he uses his Iphone.
Nothing more. No doubt when he hands his phone over to his engineers, who knows
what they use.
The point that was being made, is that he uses the Iphone for his creative work.
Thats how he does it. Do you think they would allow that if it made any difference
between that and a $60 DAW or $100,000 dollar recording set up?
You think that they all have to meet up for a recording session to make a record?
Fraid not... It only works that way in the movies.

For what you wrote, he uses his iPhone as a portable audio recorder, nothing else. That doesn't meet the DAW requirements as has been discussed. From that point of view, any cassete tape recorder we used in the 70s would equally qualify
And you're saying that he doesn't record in the studio? That he just delivers whatever he records at home with his iPhone, and that's it?
Sorry, I don't buy it.

Since he is a multimillonaire guitar player, and not some kid painting notes in a computer dreaming of being the next Martin Garrix, I would think that he already has a home studio, with his amps, pedal FX, mikes, and outboard gear. With everyting set up and ready to go, an iPhone with a decent interface would suffice to play against a backing track and call it a day. Phone processors today are more powerful than pro Mac rigs from not so long ago.fmr wrote: And you're saying that he doesn't record in the studio? Sorry, thats just how it is. Believe me, I've never been happy about it.
I would love to be able to talk to him about all the stuff we go on about around here.
Or go play around with all of his ridiculously expensive recording gear. But I cant, because
there isn't any. He has his guitar and amp collection, thats about it.
When he's working, he hardly even uses that stuff. They mostly just amp it later in the studio
from what I understand. While hes playing Golf 5000k miles away.
Anyway, this is a guy who could buy whatever gear he wanted, like it was nothing.
Yet hes not even slightly interested, all he wants is that damn phone.
Also, JoseC. is quite correct, Dave is at a different level than us mere mortals.
The way we see it, no doubt, does not really apply to him.

Dave's awesome. Everybody loves him.
And without an Ironmaiden context, very few
have even the slightest idea who he is.
He's pretty much got it made...
He's also super huggy...
sry 4 OT...

This, despite all the weak and sad arguments (again, the tired "you can't get there from here" nonsense), bears repeating.inkwarp wrote:the op simply asked what was good for a budget. in case you didn't know, limitations can be a great boon for creativity. owning 10 + daws means nothing. to creative people.
The OP frames this in the context of "solid DAWs within such-and-such a budget range".
To respond with: "Oh, laa dee daa! You cannot make the new Top 40 hit and have billions of people love you and make a gazillion dollars everyday with any of these! You must spend bunches of dollars outside of the budget you've asked your question for reasons that matter pretty much only to me!" is grossly feckless and ignorant.
One might give solid advise with such a context/budget range, but to shift the entire thread subject to the bizarre (and barely even existing today) realm of "super-duper-really-really-real big time pros" is like a toddler changing the subject of eating their vegetables to "Can I have a cookie?".

If I had to go for just one inexpensive DAW, I would probably go
for MuLab. Super flexible and well designed imo.
Bang for the buck / educational wise, dont know any other DAW will allow you to build
your own instruments or effects at the complexity of
A sylenth clone: viewtopic.php?f=79&t=470299
Ableton style clip launcher: viewtopic.php?f=79&t=464809
Granite (granular) / Serum (wave table) type: viewtopic.php?f=79&t=463371
Additive Synth: viewtopic.php?f=79&t=453321&hilit=additive+synth+mux
And god knows what else...
Although, I personally wouldnt just limit myself to one DAW, especially at that
price range...
