Hello.
I ve been using for a few days now ableton trial version and i've decided to stick with that daw. Since i'll be need audio interface in the future, I was thinking to buy focusrite scarlett 2i2 wich comes with Ableton Lite. And then after some time i'll be need some sounds. I was thinking to buy Komplete. So my question is, can I use Komplete just with Lite or do I need first to have Standard?

Surely it will work. But
It's effectively a demo.
You won't be able to make any actual music with Live Lite8 Audio and MIDI tracks

I think this depends on the music you are planning to make.DJ Warmonger wrote:You won't be able to make any actual music with Live LiteIt's effectively a demo.

There are no plugin limitations in Ableton Live Lite, so yes, Komplete will work just fine.
The previous comments have more to do with the maximum number of tracks that you can create with Live Lite. Standard edition removes this limitation. But this really has no bearing on whether Komplete will work.

These post are ridiculous. It's possible to make a song with 8 tracks. The first songs I tried to make were recorded on an old 4-track.DJ Warmonger wrote:Surely it will work. ButYou won't be able to make any actual music with Live Lite8 Audio and MIDI tracks

Why not look at Bitwig or something else (you can even get Bitwig 8 track for price of an magazine than upgrade with discount to full from it, around 200 bucks), Live is really pricey and it makes sense only if you really really like it for that buck.
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here?

Times have changed. Guy wants to buy Komplete, which includes 36 instruments. He won't even be able to try them out unless he starts 5 different projectszenophilix wrote:These post are ridiculous. I suggest you to change your priorities - bigger setup (both DAW and hardware) and less instruments.

Even though you can make a song with just 8 audio and midi tracks, it is an important limitation.
Ableton Live Lite with Komplete looks like an unbalanced setup to me, because it's likely you'll frequently face the limitation on the maximum number of tracks avaible. While Komplete will work, you probably won't get the best out of it (or you won't enjoy it as much as you would without that limitation on track count).
During my first few years (that's more than ten years ago!) I used Cubasis VST, which had limitations on track count and the number of vst instruments avaible. I still managed to work with that and some freeware plugins, but those limitations were huge, even when I had Cubasis VST 5 which featured 8 vst instruments slots...
Based on my experience, if there's some money to be spent, a manageable track count would probably be my biggest priority. That's a limitation I really don't want to experience (even if my projects often have a rather small number of tracks).
So, first of all I would look for a daw with an hight track count (I'm not saying it needs to be unlimited, but they must be enough so you could work without having to often think about that limitation). I'd start looking for commercial plugins only after that.
Komplete could be a good choice, especially if you're starting out (because it's likely you don't already own tools overlapping with that suite). Or you can buy plugins individually from various manufacturers and have a mixed setup, that's completely up to you.

Because this, like pretty much all similar music, easily fits into the 8 tracks of Live Lite, which I realised just yesterday. A drum rack can have 128 Simpler lanes, each with it's own FX and also sends inside the rack. That's just one track used covering all drums (128 drum sounds is probably enough for most
Only 8 scenes? Just how many scenes does a typical song have?
It might be that I'll run into a track count limitation issue I can't solve creatively, but for now it looks like Lite will be perfectly fine. I hope I remember to post some finished stuff in this thread!

This particularly simple tune totals 15 tracks in 7 groups plus 9 return tracks and 46 clips total. That is, after removing additional tracks which I was experimenting with. Many additional tracks were used just to record audio clips before putting them into sampler..jon wrote:Do you mean actual music like this?DJ Warmonger wrote:Surely it will work. It's not about "theoretical possibility", it's the workflow which allows you to generate as many tracks and clips as you please.
Sure, you can still make tunes today with 4-track recorder, or hunt deer in the woods. But most people find that inconvenient and not time-effective.A drum rack can have 128 Simpler lanes, each with it's own FX and also sends inside the rack. That's just one track used covering all drums (128 drum sounds is probably enough for most)
Solving limitations makes sense if you are paid for it, not if it's something you already paid for. In particular I wouldn't pay for stuff which makes life harder for me.It might be that I'll run into a track count limitation issue I can't solve creatively, but for now it looks like Lite will be perfectly fine. How many of those tracks are drums? Also, Lite can do group tracks in addition the 8 tracks. I've never used more than 2 return tracks even without limits in my old DAWs, most of the time just one- sends are a relic from the days when you only had for example a single hardware reverb unit, useful for some things that you want to share with the whole track, but most of the time inserts and busses with parallel FX do the job better.DJ Warmonger wrote:This particularly simple tune totals 15 tracks in 7 groups plus 9 return tracks and 46 clips total. It's a free DAW, bundled with controllers etc.Solving limitations makes sense if you are paid for it, not if it's something you already paid for. In particular I wouldn't pay for stuff which makes life harder for me.

I want to see you edit or play live 128-track drum rackI explained how one drum track = 128 tracks
To make things clear - the question is not how to pack already finished tune into 8 tracks, but how to make finished tune from scratch.
I know a number of sussessful music producers who use dozens of tracks, if not more. Just last week I watched a guy mixing vocal on on 10-15 tracks alone.
Well, I do. To make mixdown simpler AND still use send FX at the same time. Many people, including myself, complained there are only 12 return max and no group-groups.I've never used more than 2 return tracks
