What do people think of Iris 2? I couldn't find any threads in the forum on it. Price is right for sure, but I've got tons of synths from NI, Spectrasonics, Papen, etc. Does Iris 2 bring anything new to the table?

Personally I really like it, despite its faults - it can create some pretty unique sounds.

Iris 1 used much less CPU. In the past, iZotope has sometimes allowed customers to have access to the older versions. Also, you might be able to download the libraries individually that way, in which case it can take less hard drive space. I seem to remember Iris 1 having a lightweight library.

UI know that list price means pretty much nothing. It has been on sale WAY WAY cheaper than that. If you pay list at Waves your pretty much stupid.

I've never paid list for anything from waves - but I think it's wrong to say that people who do pay list (or list minus regular reseller discount) are stupid, because there are plenty smart people for whom the time waiting for a sale costs more than the discount saves.

Unfortunately, not every. But enough to make the plan worthwhile (or at least when they offer a discount which they did last March)

The best thing about Waves WUP compared to, say Pro Tools annual subscription, is that you only pay it when you need to and it doesn't change just because you didn't update for the last two years. Such as when they get a bunch of new plugins that you like which would cost you more than $300 on sale. Or the DAW you own decides to change from RTAS to AAX. And? The plugins keep running even if you never do the update.

But really? It works the best with bundles rather than individual plugins.

Really. And that's where it should stay, as a bundle updater / premium customer service option for high value customers - not as a yearly tax on Renaissance Bass which you got free 3 years ago and hasn't been updated since 1993

It's not like some kind of free purchase.

The purchase would just increase their costs, thus lowering their profit, which is the thing they ultimately get taxed on.

Simple example: If they made $100k profit somewhere where tax is 20%, and bought this at $7,600, then they would pay tax on $100k-$7,600=$92,400 @ 20% = $18,480 vs the $20k tax due on the full $100k.

So the tax benefit is $1,520 which is 20% of the purchase price (the tax rate). It would have still cost them $7,600 - ($20,000-$18,480=$1,520) = $6,080 in real terms.

Also, not sure how it would work with this kind of purchase as to whether they'd be able to allocate the whole cost in one year or if it would be done as some kind of percentage each year on a reducing balance basis like depreciation of fixed assets.
