Nah, because so far they haven't even realised it exists. Punk hop is very underground but there are some acts like N.E.R.D,, Spymob, etc that are big and play it.Kriminal wrote:Isnt 'Punk-Hop' just another made up (by record companies) genre to sell more records?

Spymob is N.E.R.D., virtually anyway.Lady J wrote:

I had exactly the same experience recently looking for Amon Tobin. Maybe Urban is the new RnB (ie it means anything you care to put in it)topaz wrote:same here man
made me laugh when I went into a local HMV and asked for Squarepushers new album, he asks
"what style is it" ?
I reply hmmmm, hard to say it's all over the place but has some electronic experimental sound in there.
"ahh sir all dance style music is in Urban"
but it's not really Dance I reply
"if we have it it will be under Urban sir"

I never said that we need to erect new ones. I'm all about breaking them down. But regardless of how you break down a border it has to be called something. If you don't label it yourself (as in the case of Punk Hop) someone else will (as in the case of Hick Hop).Seem to be buzzing with creativity, I like some of what they do myself; great that they are challenging boundaries, all such artificial borders need to be broken down - silly that this leads to some people feeling we need to erect some new ones.

No you have good taste.CypherOne wrote:I'm actually a big fan of NERD, both albums are really good. But then perhaps I'm easily pleased.
Fair enough.topaz wrote:I think it just makes it easier for them to deal with all the silly sub genre's, after all if they didn't throw it all in Urban they would forever be making new shelves and by the time they made new ones 4 more would come along.

Now Kelis - I like her early stuff, pity about Milkshake though. A couple of Neptunes produced songs she did with Busta Rhymes (who I love) especially.Lady J wrote:No you have good taste.CypherOne wrote:I'm actually a big fan of NERD, both albums are really good. I've been a fan of Neptunes./N.E.R.D since the first Kelis album, Kaliedoscope.
