haven't listen to Tobin for a while
today will be permutation day
I know what you're saying but my point is that people are coming up with new names and genres for things that are minor variations - really silly stuff like using more of a certain instrument or more rapping or singing, or even a different beat form. This is just crazy and I still think it's generally an artificial way to make someone seem "new" when they have little else to really contribute.Lady J wrote: I never said that we need to erect new ones. I'm all about breaking them down. But regardless of how you break down a border it has to be called something. If you don't label it yourself (as in the case of Punk Hop) someone else will (as in the case of Hick Hop).
And some of my own...from a tune in progress with my friends punk hop act. It takes on the fact that the industry likes to label people often forcing round pegs into square holes. I had to post this after reading that story about the HMV and Squarepusher album.spaceman wrote:I was waiting for a lyrics quote
what makes you think Punk Hop is minusculy deviating from something else.Emerald Tablet wrote:when i see a record labelled as "PunkMetalGospelSoul" i don't even bother to listen : when i see "metal" i at least know a bit what to expect -
where does the need to label everything which is minusculy deviating from something else a new name come from ?
