Side chaining

I have followed the you tube video of side chaining and can do it in the module area with MuLab efects. But I cant seem to fined a way to use my side chaining vst's in a rack. In Orion I just clicked on the effect and selected side chaining source. I'm wanting to use Alloy in a rack and its side chaining suppors as well as its multieffects. What am I doing wrong? Or more than likely what have I missed?

Hi heks,
right-click on the plugin > setup auxiliary ins/out and select the number of inputs from the menu that appears,
after these steps in the modular area you can see the auxiliary sidechain input in the rack for the selected plugin.

You're right, with some plugin seems that this does not work but there is an alternative,
you can do the same thing directly from the browser,
Right-click on the plugin and select "edit extra option" and after add the aux input,
let me know if this works.

Ok I think I'm being a bit thick here but I cant find and select "edit extra option".
I have right clicked on Alloy (ensuring it set to side chaining) no "edit extra option"
Opened main menu could not see anything that looked like vst or something that would "edit extra option".
I'm using 7.1.30 on windows. I'm going to try some other plugins and see if I get that option. Could it be that Alloy doesn't supply some vst info that MuLab needs..

I'm sorry, maybe I have not properly explained the steps
try to see this screenshot,if this does not work maybe it is a problem that concerns alloy.
right-click directly on the name(in this case Alloy) in the VST browser,

Here is a more accurate explanation http://www.mutools.com/info/docs/mux/us ... ugins.html
take a look at "Using multiple inputs and outputs"
I hope this helps more than my bad English

That means that the plugin does not have any extra in/out jacks.heks wrote:Strange , When right clicking on the plugin in the rack or in the modular area I'm not getting an option to setup auxilary ins/outs.
Note that if a VST plugin only has one stereo input jack, you cannot directly use the "Aux Input" method to setup eg side-chaining as their only is 1 input jack. If a VST plugin only has 1 stereo input jack and uses the right input pin as a side-chain input, then there are 2 options:
1) If that VST plugin always uses its stereo input as 2 separate mono inputs, then you can overwrite the VST pin configuration in the VstPlugins.Xml file, as explained here: http://www.mutools.com/info/docs/common ... ences.html
2) If that VST plugin's stereo input is to be used as 2 separate mono inputs in that specific project, then move that VST into a MUX and use 2 Audio Inputs and a Stereo Combiner in that MUX to wrap the inputs. Then right-click that wrapper MUX in the rack and you'll have the "Setup Aux Ins/Outs" option.
Does this help?

If in rack 1 I have a bass instrument and in rack 2 I have a pad instrument followed by a compressor with side chain, is it possible to send the bass to the side chain input?

Yes: Make sure the side-chain input of the compressor is available as an aux input for the rack, cfr above posts. Then connect the audio output of the bass to that aux input of that pad+compressor rack.

Ah, right, yes, it does "just work". I'd misunderstood what I was seeing.
What confused me is that the send still targets the rack, not the compressor - but the rack itself has the extra audio input. The send connects to that.
And if I add a second side-chained effect, picking the rack as a send target still links to the first extra audio input - you have to resort to modular view to fix it if needed. The audio inputs do have discrete names (named after the module the aux belongs to by default), so it might be nice to allow the target to be picked using the name.
