What it does is make it seem like you're listening to your mix on speakers in an ideal 3D environment (though not on ideal speakers - it's limited by the quality of the headphones). It's kind of uncanny at first, but I like it.
That's the way I understood it. I have some AKG K240 cans I would be using with it. I'm not execting miracles or anything, and definitely don't want it to do any mixing for me (though I did recently get Neutron, so maybe I'm just subconsciously putting all the pieces together to not do any mixing at all, lolol.

But seriously, I believe I get the concept of the plugin. Just wondering if it really is effective enough to justify the dirt-cheap price. I'm guessing it is based on what I'm seeing here?

Personally, I think it's worth the $30. It is for me because I only have headphones, so it's good to get an indication of how my track will sound on speakers. Even if you don't end up using it all the time while you're mixing, it'll give you another 'perspective' on your mix. I'm not an expert audio engineer, and I've only had the plugin for a short while, so it's hard for me to tell you exactly how you'll find it.

The best thing would be for you to be able to demo it yourself. Given that your ability to do that right now is limited, I would consider getting it anyway - you would probably be able to get your $30 back in the marketplace when the price is back up to $100 if you don't like it when your hearing has returned.

the camera-only headtracking is pretty impressive in decent lighting - but the gimmick of that wore off pretty quick for me and I just use it with a fixed "sweet spot" position.

Quick reminder for the ROB PAPEN EXPLORER III UPGRADE FOR OWNERS OF 3 OR MORE RP PLUGINS at $149 ($126.65 at JRR - https://www.jrrshop.com/rob-papen-explo ... -3-or-more )

Even if you only have one paid RP plug-in, you can buy 2 more of the "cheapies" eg punch-bd and rp-delay for 2 x $49 = $98 (2 x $41.65 = $83.30 at JRR)

that gives a total of $209.95 at JRR for all this lot if you already owned one paid RP plug-in:

Predator: Phat analoge synth with killer presets and first class features.
BLUE-II: Cross-fusion synthesis.
Blade: The cutting edge of today's synthesizers!
SubBoomBass: Ultra-deep groove bass synth with built-in step sequencer.
RAW: Cutting edge EDM synthesizer with the focus on 'distorted sounds'
RG: Electric & acoustic guitar grooves with sequencer and synth effects.
Punch: Speaker busting and body rattling drum machine.
PredatorFX: Filter, modulation, vocoder and effects plug-in.
RP-EQ: Silk sounding channel and mastering EQ. [new]
RP-Delay: Delay insanity. reverser, 6 lines, 8 filters, 4 LFOs & more.
RP-Verb: An advanced, transparent and musical algorithm reverb with easy controls.
RP-Distort: Wicked FX unit that will distort or alter your tracks.
RP-Amod: Spice up your vocal track, liven an instrument and even beef up your drums.
Punch-BD: Based around the BD module of the multi award winning Punch virtual drum synth, Rob Papen delivers a creative module to help you to produce the fattest sounding bass drums.

plus you get the free upgrade to the imminent Explorer 4 when it's launched, which includes Predator 2 and RP-VERB 2 when it launches later this year.

I'm not sure if you can do it starting from zero and buying 3 of the $49 cheapies + the $149 upgrade (excluding additional reseller discount), but either way it's a pretty sweet deal.

Isn't NX pretty much the same as Toneboosters Isone but fare less sophisticated ???

depends how much you value the head-tracking I guess.

Yeah, and they're currently updating the NX plugin to support the head tracker. Waves is still not finished adding and testing the headtracker feature upgrade to the NX plugin from what I last read a few weeks ago, but it should be final pretty soon I believe. I think headtracker is still beta for now. I ordered the kickstarter early bird head tracker with the regular android/ios app for $59. Still not here. They miss-shipped it via UPS and I can't receive here via UPS. 2 months waiting since they shipped it. So much for being an early bird... No benefit to me for supporting them by being an 'early bird'.

But I did grab the $29 NX plugin version knowing I'd be mostly using that. Nick Murray has a review of his he did on Patreon. I signed up to suppport him on patreon and it's been awesome so far. Worth every penny. Had a Skype live video call with him one-on-one last week and he was really down to earth and gave great input on my track I'd submitted to him for review.

Here's his review on the NX Headtracker, but it'll require at least a $1 or $3 dollar membership I think. I'm supporting him with $35 a month. He's the guy who does the NFL pre show music and Super Bowl 50, movie trailers and tons of top TV shows, etc. Extensive IMDB page. Great guy with top class skills. Video here: "Private Patreon-Only Video - Waves NX Headtracker Unboxing & First Impressions" https://www.patreon.com/bePatron?u=2975 ... on-6886104

I don't mind supporting him because he is not holding anything back like so many in the industry. He just shares everything. So humble for a guy with that many credits.

Anyway, it seems like this technology is finally usable after decades of others trying. But yes, it is dependent on headphone quality and you still 'knowing your monitors', or in this case your headphones. But just like anything, if you use reference tracks and know your monitors, you can pretty much mix successfully on any setup as long as it can reveal the details well enough. It seems this can. Plus it adds that 3D feel to headphones. So it's fun!

Just removed the most recent ones. For future posts with them, using the report post button or PMing me will probably get quicker results than posting in this thread.

Can anyone spill the beans on next month's Vienna Symphonic Library discount?

Does anyone know if current owners fo Explorer III get the EQ, or is that really for the EX IV bundle?
