Ummagumma, Meddle and Obscured By Clouds are good. I have an original (i.e.1960s) copy of Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, but I personally think the album is quite weak.

Definitely, Set the Controls is simply brilliant. Even my wife, who hates Floyd, loves that version.progfusion74 wrote:MArmstrong wrote:Don't know if it was the one you heard, but the live version of Echoes on Live at Pompeii is wonderful.gnu23 wrote: One track I would dearly love to find and I can't - while travelling across nothern Florida very late at night to see Utopia at Florida State, I got to hear the live version of "Echoes" on the radio. Can anyone tell me which album it came from? "Live at Pompeii" maybe?

Yep ... FABULOUS!! As is "Set the Control .." and "Careful with that Axe, Eugene"

Sorry for silly reply, but let us talk a little bit more about early Pink Floyd.
Actually I love "Meddle" too, especially that "Ping!" at the beginning of Echoes.

Piper for me (I am nastaugic for this one) Spent may a time tripping my brains out listening to it. Very good album for that purpose. I also am fond of Saucer Full of Secrets, Meddle, Ummagumma and Obscured by Clouds (Interesting movie too). I saw Floyd when Saucer Full of Secrets came out and me and my friends got in for free because they thought we were the opening act (we did not tell them we weren't
) and there was a thunderstorm during Floyd's set. Right when they started Set the Controls... there was a huge lightning strike on one of the light towers at the stadium and they were energised and it was the best rendition I heard of that song. We ended up in the press section so we got the best view of the venue. Far Out

I never got into the Waters-era Floyd. I actually prefer later Floyd. Division Bell may be my favorite Floyd album, all told. Which is funny because I hated it when it first came out. But "What Do You Want From Me" really made me change my mind.
Probably my favorite Floyd song, though, is "Have A Cigar," from Wish You Were Here. Really poignant and clever. Aside from that, though, the Waters era holds no thrill for me. I'm more for Gilmour's stuff, like "Comfortably Numb" (during the Waters era, but a Gilmour song, to be sure), "Learning to Fly," "What Do You Want From Me," etc.

Syd's looking a little older these days, sadly.

Lost In The Woods ( http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... 7?v=glance ) is worth a read if you're a fan.
I like pretty much anything Floyd, from Piper up to The Wall. Lost interest a little after that.
BTW, if anyone knows how they did the cool sounds at the end of Bike, put me out of my misery!
