MTurboComp Output Metering Bug?

I may have come across a bug in turbo comp, I think it's the output metering that's at fault. Essentially, the output meter of TurboComp says the output is above zero (in the image it's +1.96dBFS). But placing an MUtility immediately after TurboComp says it's input is maxing out at -1.6dBFS... a difference of 3.56dB.
The limiter is turned off. Oversampling is set to 2x, which could cause a slight difference, but i checked at 1x and it definitely isn't that.
Anyone else see any weird output/input irregularities? It may only be when pushing the signal above zero. I made a bug before about not being able to bring the signal down without affecting the tone, and as a result, there isn't a way to fix this without putting something like an MUtility in the way. If you adjust the saturator output level in the Edit settings changes the tone, which isn't what i want.
So I guess there's two bugs that are making this situation bad for me... one, the metering above zero may be incorrect... and two, you can't change the final output volume without affecting the tone.
Thanks

try again without upsampling.
I have really tried to recreate this bug, but my meters always match each other perfectly. I even copied your settings from the picture. The only way I was able to make them different was when I enabled 2x upsampling.

Yeah, it's weird, i was using TurboComp in a different project and couldn't repro either so I'll have to find what caused this.
As i put in the original post, i tried it without oversampling and that wasn't the issue. Nothing I did would push the output over 0 for some reason, even though the meters said it was going over. Weird.

I know you said that you had tried upsampling, but I still think its that, which is why I said try again. Can you repro it without it on? if you are able to repro it, could you maybe copy/paste the settings here?
Let me know if you find out what it is, I'm scratching my head.

Actually, you're absolutely right, it is oversampling. I did try with it switched off but obviously not thoroughly enough. Thanks for your persistence. So, it seems there's a rare issue with oversampling in TurboComp. Essentially I'm seeing anything higher than 1x is clipping the output at just below zero.
Unfortunately I can't replicate the bug in a different session with the settings copy/pasted, or even with the entire track copy/pasted in the same session. Settings on that instance must have become corrupted somehow.
As a result, I just duped the plugin instance and the problem went away. Weird. Therefore, I guess this thread can be ignored. If i can manage to replicate it i'll update this thread.
Cheers

I think this will be sorted in the next update. Vojtech wrote in the other thread:vectorwarrior wrote: ... and two, you can't change the final output volume without affecting the tone.
Thanks
The next version active presets will contain "output gain (final)" control, but it will be hidden, so available from the edit screen only. Personally I think it's a bit pointless, but well, who knows...

Yeah, i was the one who asked for it. The reason I mentioned it above was because the two issues sort of compound each other... i was seeing weird output behavior and yet no way of adjusting it without changing the tone. I'm looking forward to whatever cool stuff Vojtech has been cooking up since the last update!

Actually the new output gain is just a multiparameter, no magic there. I don't remember correctly with all the gazillions of features, but I believe downsampling is performed after the meters, so basically you can see what the level is before the downsampling on the internal meters. Whether it is better or not, that's a question, it probably depends on the situation

Does this mean that if I want to see the output volume leaving the plug-in - I need to do something like putting a meter behind it (i.e., in the insert slot below MTurboComp)?MeldaProduction wrote:Actually the new output gain is just a multiparameter, no magic there. By insert slot bellow MTurboComp does that mean it comes after it in the signal chain?alexis1 wrote:Hi - ^ ^ can someone clarify please? Thanks!
If yes, then the answer to your question is yes, however this is only the case when using upsampling.

Correct. The upsampling is like an "external" process, which makes everything in the plugin work in higher sampling rate, including meters.
