Granular synthesis simply refers to splitting an audio signal into "grains"
then playing them back so that the individual grain sounds blend into each other
to leave you with that characteristic granular sound.

You can implement it in pretty much any method involving controlled sample playback.

Thats really all there is to it, not one of the most complicated forms
of audio synthesis...

*If you have MUX or MuLab and want to mess around with a primitive but surprisingly capable granular synth.
You can try this one: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9g5q ... HIwMmFTOW8
Authored by me interestingly...

Whoever wants to demystify granular synthesis, read some of the books and articles compiled here:
http://www.granularsynthesis.com/books.php

the article from 1946 written by the inventor himself, Dennis Garbor, is particularly interesting.

What about Hadron? I only just downloaded it to try it out but it's free so maybe worth a look.

There's a cool Kontakt instrument called granulator as well if you have Kontakt that might be worth looking at.

'The Mangle' seems to have dropped back to it's beta price. Don't know if this was announced. Maybe it's a sale

That would be Granulate. Kontakt can be quite capable. I made somewhat more relaxed attempt at the topic.

 poor OP, he asked for a granular synthesizer and he end up with a thread full of theorical academic explanations and a bunch of effect suggestions that are far away from a synth. Welcome to KVR!

fortunately the OP is almost a year ago.

you know, (you have to say that like tim brooke taylor imitating QEII)

i'm really thankful other people got to this thread first. because this is damage.

you can see why the thread title is "recomMED" because you need some bloody medicine to read these things.

really, thank you to the other persons addressing the injection of total fap into this discussion. this occurs so often now, that it's a wonder how normal people, who are not myself, still haven't picked up on the intentional headscrewing that goes on around here.

can't you see that? can't you see how the post in question is so infused with useless and debilitating language that there is no question it was intended only to be used as a weapon? how many lost noobs have been patrolling the internet searching for a "true granular oscillator" in the last 24 hours? i'm just glad someone else said something this time.
you come and go, you come and go. amitabha neither a follower nor a leader be tagore "where roads are made i lose my way" where there is certainty, consideration is absent.

KVR: True Granular Oscillators for Lost Noobs.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

You're so right. And the most amazing thing is, if you do a Google search for Granular VSTs, there isn't a lot out there. I would think that granular synthesis would be more popular than it is because it can be so powerful if done properly.

Makes you wonder if there's really that big a market for it. Seems there's a bigger market for modular synths, though not that much bigger.

The Mangle
Padshop Pro
Skanner XT (Running in Reaktor)
also in Reaktor, Vectorspace
along with a host of other ensembles in the user Library.

These are the ones that I have that I like best so far...

The system specs say minimum screen resolution of 1024. This thing doesn't even come close to filling it up and with so many controls and such a small interface, you can't make out anything.

Shame, because I would have actually considered getting it.
Nuklear isn't granular?

Great synth though.. Wish that they'd have the time to finish the update.

It isn't? I don't know. Somebody here said it was. It says so in the specs.

Supercollider can do granular synthesis too . I m b eginning to learn that language now I ve seen there s already some classes and patches with granular synth.

Website says "pulsar train oscillators".

*edit*

Also says "based on advanced granular pulse train synthesis".

Absynth! Paulstretch in VSTi.

Well, okay, almost!
