Minimonsta is 11 years old and it still sounds like the best VA to me.

Not sure what you are trying to say...jancivil wrote:Well, I notice that as reductive, so I suppose it is more complex than you will entertain. "I suppose many developers of poly synths have studied that..." appears to be argumentative ("There is nothing magical about it" surely is), like you've doubled down on your refusal (of the point of a mono-only design). So, the discussion becomes circular, rather than an exchange.
Of course it is complex, at least for me because I am no programmer. Still, it is all just physics. And in this case rather simple physics compared to other fields such as nuclear physics.
And yes, in my view there is no point in a mono soft synth when a poly soft synth contains well implemented mono modes emulating the Minimoog behavior. After all, there have also been different poly mode behaviors on hw, and some soft synths emulate them better than others. Some even offer different poly modes to choose from.
Mono mode is more than just switching off all voices but one. And developers certainly know that when they program the mono modes for their poly synths.

There are no poly synths that behave like the minimoog, in fact there are even minimoog 'emulations' (if you want to call them that) that do not behave like the minimoog.fluffy_little_something wrote:And yes, in my view there is no point in a mono soft synth when a poly soft synth contains well implemented mono modes emulating the Minimoog behavior.

Do you have an audio example of that mono hammer-style playing? Didn't find anything on YT when looking for those terms...

I just stumbled across this thread after trying the minimonata demo again after several years and was surprised too see that I was quite impressed. Yeah the filter isn't quite like Monark but it's good enough for the polyphonic sounds it excels at. Plus nice modulated rhythmic stuff like that one Dave Spiers where he made that crystal method type pulsing synth sound with it. While everyone focuses on the filter of a synth, I really think that the oscillators do matter as well and how they sound mixed together. MM has just the right mix of of punchy and clear and creamy.
And lo and behold, it even has polyphonic aftertouch! Why the heck didn't they put that midi modulation in Oddity 2 damn it?!! That's the stuff it's missing... Eleven years later and synths are still being released without polyphonic aftertouch. Crazy.
I wonder if there's a way to get a good deal on this as the regular price is just a bit much for an oldie like this.

GForce stuff is amazing but most are all due for some major updates.
Like others mentioned, their GUIs are too small for today's resolutions.
I own and love Oddity 2 but would welcome a gui that was scalable.

Maybe there is not enough demand for it as most keyboards don't support it.Echoes in the Attic wrote:And lo and behold, it even has polyphonic aftertouch! I thought Ohmforce coded this, in which case it'll never get updated.
They still haven't fixed the recognised Hematohm bug in Bitwig meaning it won't even load on Win 64, all the other plugins are fine, and its one of the few Vst frequency shifters actually available

Minimonsta would kill with a new 0dfb filter and a new scalable gui. That is pretty much all that synth needs, otherwise it's perfect. It's a finished product.
