Hi
Is there a reason for this restriction? Every Other VST allows data to be installed in this folder.
Thanks
Richard

That's a Windows limitation unless you're running an administrator account.
It is not a good idea to put that there, since plugin needs read-write access to those files - that's why My Documents folder is for.

Yep, that's the way to do it - have a separate folder for all VSTs (64-bit and 32-bit to their own folders). OUTSIDE of Program Files!

I don't like programs creating folders in the root of C: - it's messy and bad practice.

Create a folder in any other place, not in the root of C. Why Program Files? Many plugins are installed by copying of .dll so putting them in an appropriate folder with a free access is logical. Don't forget to change settings in your DAW.

It's exactly what VSTs need.craftycurate wrote:I don't like programs creating folders in the root of C: - it's messy and bad practice.
I have all my plugins on a separate hard drive (not C), but root nonetheless. Simples.

It's not messy or bad practice at all to direct all plugins into one or two folders that are outside of Program Files. It's actually a good thing, plus it's according to MS recommendations.

I said it was messy and bad practice to place folders like VST folders in the root of C:\, not a designated folder outside of Program Files.

Why would it be a bad practice? I had it set up exactly like that on my old computer for years, never had a single problem. Wasn't messy. Worked just fine.
Now it's on a separate hard drive.

Bad practice or not, i like tidiness in my file structure, so i usually do at least 2 partitions, and also put audio stuff in my Audio folder, and also create a VST folder inside that. Also have 2 folders for 64- and 32-bit plugins. Old chinese saying, he who is too lazy to search keeps order.
