Very weird bug

I have a very weird bug.

I use Studio One on OSX. As soon as I insert MSpectralDynamics anywhere in the track my sustain pedal is no longer recorded properly.

What happens is the following:
- I record a (midi) track, playing a VST instrument and it plays and records fine.
- I insert mspectraldynamics anywhere in the song, even on a completely unrelated track.
- My vst instrument still plays fine when I play my keyboard and sustain pedal.
- However the recording has a really weird thing; After every sustain pedal (CC64) event a sustain pedal off is inserted. So pressing the pedal down will insert a pedal up right after it and releasing the pedal will have another release right after it.

Removing all mspectraldynamics from the song or disabling them solves the problem (fully disabling, not automation bypass).

My setup is MacOs 10.12.1, iMac 5k, Studio One 3.3.1 and mSpectralDynamic 10.04.

No other plugin has this problem (other Melda plugins work great as well).

Super weird. Somehow the plugin must interact with the midi signal.

I did try fully uninstalling all Melda plugins, reloading the installer and re-installing. Same problem.

MSpectralDynamics introduces latency (same as linear-phase equalizers, pitch shifters and some other plugins). This means it delays the output and tells the host about it. The host can then make sure all tracks are in sync by delaying other tracks as well. That's call PDC - plugin delay compensation, and pretty much all hosts have it. When recording things can get messy (it is actually hard for me to understand that you can record anything this way, since you must hear the output delayed). So my guess is that either Studio One doesn't properly compensate for the latency by MIDI, or you actually don't know about the delay - meaning if you record just the pedal, it is possible that you just didn't realize that everything is delayed, try playing keyboards altogether, I'm pretty sure you will find this impossible.

To solve this, disable all plugins with latency (just MSpectralDynamics in your case probably). Cubase for example has a handy button that temporarily disables all plugins with latency.

No that is not the issue. If I insert mspectraldynamics on another track (and disable delay compensation) than the problem still occurs.

Also, if it would have been a delayed recording, everything would be delayed, not extra events being inserted.

An extra sustain pedal up (cc64 value 0) is inserted after every cc64 event.

This happens only with mspectraldynamics, no other melda or any other plug-in.

Thanks for looking into this.

Well, it sure is a question for Studio One devs. In general the plugin can NOT access MIDI being recorded anyhow, it only takes input MIDI and audio and produces output audio, that's all. I still believe it's PDC, just probably malfunctioning there. Try MEqualizerLinearPhase, that one has even bigger latency than MSpectralDynamics.

You are right :)
When inserting Fabfilter Pro-L I have the same (and indeed also with MEqualizerLinearPhase).
I've contacted Presonus.

Very well! ;)
