Post

Hi all,
I've just released VUMT 2 and VUMT deluxe.

VUMT is an analog style metering, gain staging and channel tool

Image

What's new in VUMT 2?
- VUMT has been rewritten from the ground up
- VUMT solo and duo are now merged into a single plugin, and you can switch from solo to dual meter view with a single click.
- GUI resizing
- a proper preset browser with easy copy/paste/save as default...
- VU, PPM (DIN Type I) and RMS metering
- improved hold needle, peak LED and meter value readouts (incl. the option the set the hold times to infinity)
- fully customizable meter ballistics, incl. overshoot parameter for the VU
- adjustable needle refresh rate
- an editable instance label
- many options to show/hide elements from the GUI incl. a meters-only view
- VUMT includes 8 different skins now

- rewritten standalone application:
- the current state of the app is automatically saved upon close and recalled when re-opening the app
- always-on-top option

VUMT DELUXE:

In addition to everything VUMT (standard) has to offer, VUMT deluxe includes the following features:
- more metering scales: BBC, EBU, Nordic
- frequency weighting in RMS mode (A, B, C and D - weighting curves)
- channel tools: mute, polarity reverse and a monitor section
- additional signal processing tools/track utilities:
- filters: HPF and LPF (6dB, 12dB, 24dB)
- a single band dynamic EQ (selectable dynamic HPF, LPF and BPF) to remove resonances, control the top/-low-end of mixes or for quick and easy de-essing
- a mono maker to narrow down the stereo image below a certain frequency
- a contrasting meter GUI for each skin

VUMT (standard) costs 14 €
VUMT deluxe costs 22 €

VUMT 2 (standard) is a free update for users of VUMT 1.x. Simply log in to your Klanghelm account and download the new version.

There's also an upgrade path to VUMT deluxe available for users of VUMT 1.x or the new VUMT standard version. You can upgrade to VUMT deluxe anytime for 10€ by logging in to your Klanghelm account, and use the Paypal button in there.

Note for users of VUMT 1.x: the new version uses a new pluginID, so it doesn't replace instances of V1.x in existing projects

VUMT and VUMT deluxe are available in the following formats:
Windows: VST, AAX, Standalone
Mac: AU, VST, AAX, Standalone

Nice update / upgrade path for v1 users :). Just bought the Deluxe upgrade (even with the £ tanking ;))

Edit: Just installed - is there no VST3 edition?

I've been waiting for this for months, and it's finally out "in the wild". Congratulations to the release.

Having a VU, PPM/DIN and RMS meter (with AES-17 +3dB compensation!) at your fingertips will definitely add to the learning factor in the audio realm (yeah! Back to the roots!). And it is an (IMO!) interesting/affordable competition to PSP Triple Meter (who uses VU, PPM/EBU and RMS) and zplane's PPMulator (DIN, EBU, Nordic, British - plus ITU-R BS.1770-x spec metering). That is a huge update at a very modest price indeed.

VUMT v1 has been my go-to VU (along with Hornet's VU Meter if I was lazy in terms of setting up the project). Will definitely enjoy v2 just as much.

Great update,thanks Klanghelm

Interesting. Does the Deluxe version allow for communication between instances? I'm talking about situations where you'd insert it before an specific plugin to make the gain staging (i.e. a compressor or a distortion), and use a second instance after that plugin to automatically compensate for level differences. I'm looking for an affordable solution to streamline this repetitive process (currently using Sleepy-Time Stereo Tools, which is fine for simple gain staging, but you have to set it up manually and it's not developed anymore).

The skin on these is outrageous! :o  :-o  :tu:

I can answer this, and the short answer is "no" - there is no instance interaction.

The long answer is (if you want to do initial gain staging, or somewhat "auto gain" a signal post effect editing):
- Go into the settings (the monkey wrench), and activate "infinite hold"
- activate the hold needle on top of the GUI
- have one instance per channel of course
- run your track from start to finish
- see where you're at in terms of the hold needle, then adjust up/down according to VU values (bass intensive material) or PPM/DIN values (transient heavy material)

Gain staging post a compressor would work the same way - but then again... the Klanghelm tools have an In-Out indicator (everything hovering around 0VU means it's compensated). Else, your ears are the best judge.

If you want to "auto compensate" (auto gain) tools that don't have such a feature built in (think Tokyo Dawn Labs), maybe BlueCat Audio (Gain Suite) has something for you, or Hornet Plugins (VU Meter - which does have an auto-gain feature)

it's possible to do this semi-automatically with REAPER's parameter linking. look for Dan Worral's video on pre-emphasis EQ in REAPER - the idea is the same, only stead of linking EQ bands, link gain knobs.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

Amateur technicians are assessed by the tools they possess - and the amount of those tools, with an obvious preference to the latest hyped ones.
