That's good. But it's not just the darkness, it's the layout too. The closeness of things, the two colour scheme and the darkness, all 3 combine to make it not the most pleasant gui.

It needs a "from the ground up" rethink, basically. The synth feels much more capable and as a serious work machine, than what the gui represents of it. In other words, the gui is not doing the sound aspect of the synth, justice. That's all.

A few other synths have suffered the same fate, and those that did not address it, basically lost out on sales and on actually being known and appreciated for what they can do sound-wise, by the wider public. If you've invested majorly in the sound, but not the gui, that investment, in many cases has not paid off (or as much as it could have) for those who did not address that other half of the synth: its looks.

Maybe they have set it to a reasonable value. Does it use more CPU than before?
Waves have removed the inferior quality option in Element 2.
I am not sure. The quality seems about to be the same to me. Especially when using a clean sine, i can hear artifacts...weird.
So is Blue2.

I don't mind the look/layout of the GUI other than the lack of contrast.

Omg, so many whining about stupid bugs and gui...contact support for that. Please, someone comment sound quality, post some sound examples. Lets see hear what this beast can do...and dont whine!!!

please...this thing is just released. When there are bugs, this forum is a great place to start to find out if those are real bugs, see if other people have the same issues.
Showcases and such will come ofcourse, but whining about people who want to find out if their issues are not only theirs, is just stupid

So... how's the sound?!?...

Post

i'm a little befuddled by the Explorer upgrade offer from 3 to 4.
Basically it's $79 for Predater 2 then wait almost a year for the next update. Seems a little odd... I'd rather pay $49 now and maybe another $49 later when the other upgrade comes out.

I like the sound very much (apart from some envelope and filter issues).

I was listening to some presets (there are a lot...damn) and i must say, it does 80's and 90's synths very well. Nice env slopes/timings, lovely (and buttery) filters and the wave editor is quite well equipped.

I miss the oversample capabilities though, especially for weird FM patches and there is something weird happening with the filter section when playing more then 8 voices...weird stuff (i submitted a ticket at Rob's site for those issues/bugs)

Thanks. :) Gonna wait for a demo version to check it out then.

Development of a demo version is in progress. Maybe it is finished next week.

Yeah..As a Explorer 3 owner I'm not going to pay another $30 just to get the predator 2 upgrade and then wait almost another year to get the RP Verb 2. No thanks...

How big is the default GUI (in pixels) please?

Post

overlook or something? I didn't see any demo avail for d/l ?

Post

Maybe different shade or contrasted GUI alternatives will be good, but my main problem with the current one is that the easy page has some pixelated controls from poor scaling. Hope that will be fixed at some point. There's no such distortion on the knobs when the GUI is scaled to 'big screen' mode (except the TRK labels around some knobs & variations A/B/C/D label). I don't doubt the quality of the synth as I already upgraded. But it does look a bit naff to potential buyers. The actual screenshot on RP.com:

I love RP stuff but the GUI on this thing is painful to use. Much prefer version 1 in term of usability, and it looks clearer . The 2 color pallete is not easy to read.

I like the new manager though, makes it easier to browse categories.
