Diva...the Test of Time...

In the last few years i acquired a lot of Vintage Analog, Modern Analog and VA Hardware synths.
At the same time i also own/ed almost any VST Synth out there. By now 99% of the VST Synth
i owned i already retired. Completely...or either sold them. I have a Virus TI 2, an Analog Keys,
i have a Modular with also a MiniMod line in it, 2 VCOs, VCF, VCA, Contour and also a DPO VCO
a Sub37, Tiesco 100F and Vintage ARP Odyssey. In the past i owned an ARP2600 and Vintage MS20.
Even though i have those Synths above, DIVA is the ONLY synth that runs parallel with them and
never gives up. It is right next to any of them that i mentioned above, of course the ones that i
own now. I have a Module from Sputnik Modular that allows you to bring Audio from the outside
world inside the Modular and that is how i use Diva a lot of times, just running a plain Oscillator
in the Modular and then using the Modular Envelopes, VCF and Contour and then back into Cubase.
Its like made in heaven...Bazille is right next to it...anyone can share any stories like this?
I am planning on getting one of DSI Synths...and maybe a Repro too...that will be interesting.

I have all of the u-He synths, that's a must have too. What i love about this way
of working is, i can add a WaveFolder to Diva, while exiting out of Cubase as a
pure Oscillator or while entering the Modular, something like uFold also as a
pure Oscillator preFilter...the possibilities...uhhh.

I don't have any significant experience with hardware synths. All I know is Diva sounds damn good. Repro-1 too, but I bought them both within a day or two of one another and thus far I've spent most of my time with Diva, but I will dive in with Repro soon enough.
Bazille is no different. That was my first u-he synth. Great filters on that one as well, and perhaps a bit more flexible for sound design... but jeez man, I now understand why people say many softsynths sound flat and lifeless. The difference is more pronounced than I expected. Of course, I've got a rather powerful processor (i7 6700k) and Diva all but kicks it over when running high polyphony in great or divine accuracy. But it's a price I'm willing to pay.

Yes, you will pay that price but you will not regret.

(just bought 'Diva' again last night. owned it a few years ago, and have been using a demo version on and off since i sold it. always comparing it to other synths to see if i'm just "not getting it" or what. my feelings haven't changed too much. ... not sure how old the demo version was that i had installed, but one thing i noticed when installing it last night is that the current version actually looks a lot worse now. didn't think that was possible, but they "updated" a lot of the graphic elements and i sure don't think they're any sort of improvement. really surprised when i fired it up last night. thankfully, we now have the Volta and AIKO skins for it. if not, i wouldn't have even bought it again.)
i'll try to explain in more detail later, but i still think 'Diva' is so over-rated in some ways that it's almost like an industry in-joke. i swear it's like anyone who praises it has used nothing else but some junk SynthEdit plug-ins or Reaktor UL synths from 2005. it's very good (sometimes even great), but it's not nearly as good as everyone makes it out to be. it gets brought up again and again and again as pretty much the only synth worth buying/using, which i think is laughable. it has MANY strengths, but i also think it has many faults.
that said, as far as analog emulation i think 'Repro-1' is probably (overall) the best synth i've ever used.

Agree. Soundwise its good. Workflow and mod system is a bit funky tho. All uhe stuff is is a bit too unconventional for me. You cant please everyone tho.jbuonacc wrote:it has MANY strengths, but i also think it has many faults.

That's the curse of having no competition. Can't really comapre Diva to Repro, can't really comapre her to any other emulation, can't really compare her to anything. You can either like her or not.jbuonacc wrote:it's not nearly as good as everyone makes it out to be.
(one reason we never do sales revisited: People buy things they don't like...)

We explore different paradigms in different plug-ins. It requires getting yourself involved with it, rather than doing what you always do. It's based on the idea that challenge is good for original ideas and routine is not.AnX wrote:All uhe stuff is is a bit too unconventional for me.

It goes parallel with the Modular and the Sub37...head to head.

can't get into the Re-Pro thing sorry, the bass-murdering resonance is wack in my book.
but Diva, well, i spend more time with her than my wife. love her to death, she's the bomb!

Ouside of KVR and gearslutz very few people go beyond Arturia and NI, Arturia is the one highly over rated.

I would say at least on forums Arturia are the ones most verbally slaughtered.rod_zero wrote:Ouside of KVR and gearslutz very few people go beyond Arturia and NI, Arturia is the one highly over rated.
I used to write them off, but ended up getting the bundle, and Analog Lab with the bundle is one of the few soft synths that allows you to hard wire CC's to knobs and faders. I wish more developers would go this way, it's like having Komplete Kontrol without having to buy specific hardware. Synclavier and Matrix 12 are both top notch, the older synths have rough edges I would like to see fixed, but everything synth wise is usable.
As far as U-He goes, everything is quality, my only complaint is Filterscape is long in the tooth, and Zebra needs some love. Beyond that Diva stands on it's own. Seriously though, why aren't all the filter types U-He makes in their filter plug in?
