I have to say, I've been very disappointed with the lack of good sales on SSD drives on Cyber Monday. I found a 500gb+ for $99, but all the 1TB drives were ridiculously expensive for my budget. And maybe I missed them.

I have two of the sandisk ultras. Both have been rock solid for the past year. I pad $244 each for my 960GB drives. So it's getting better.

If you can guess their release date, and purchase within their update window (I forget what it's called), I believe they will give you the update to 9 for free.

That's what I'm shooting for. It's about activation, I don't need to activate, I just want to buy it and wait until 9 comes out. I'm just trying to find a reseller that offers the upgrade at a discount.

Normal procedure for Steinberg has been any updates bought after October 15th or so get a free upgrade. So, you take your chances that they will give the free upgrade if you buy now...

Got it! I'm looking for a place to buy it discounted. It doesn't matter when you buy as long as you don't activate outside of the grace period. So, if I buy now and wait for 9 to be released, I can activate and download 9 the same day.

So I tried buying UVI's Synth Legends from Musicians Friend again, since as a Stupid Deal of the Day for $29.99, it was hard to pass up. The first time I tried buying it, they left it out of the box. (The box wasn't empty though that might have been funny.) Since I used PayPal they couldn't credit and resend it so I just took the credit. This time, I got the product but the registration code inside was for a different UVI product. Really? I can't believe they ship this thing. There is no DVD inside, just a card with directions on registering and downloading. If they just sent the code, this would never have happened. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed third time is the charm.

There is no DVD in most of the software purchased at Musicians Friend.. that is how it works. AAMOF, all of the software I have purchased from MF has been that way (serial code inside a DVD box).

The code was for Energy wasn't it? Mine was. I mentioned this earlier, hoping to warn others, but I guess it got overlooked. I'm still waiting for UVI to respond to my ticket to correct the software.

Darn, sorry I missed your warning. I emailed UVI, but then called MF. This will be their last chance for software. I think I have to pay to return it.

I'm not a big synths person, I have more than I will ever use between Reason and NI, it was only a few of the keyboards sounds that looked interesting.

I wonder if a bunch of people buying Energy are getting Synths Legends.

Err Maybe so. They sorted me out now, downloading the Synth Legacy installer from my UVI account.

Does anyone know what the cheapest way to buy cubase upgrades is? Most places don't have them and those that do don't allow their typical coupons.

I always just pay my annual $50 upgrade fee for the next version to stay up. I found it easier that way with them. But maybe someone else knows.

I keep going back and forth, but my workflow has changed (again) lately and I'm finding it again to be the right choice. I'm on 7.5 but with 9 coming out I thought that I'd get the upgrade to 8.5. What I should do is just wait for a sale. They had one when I jumped to 7 from 5.

I am in the identical position:
Cubase 7.5 and looking for a possible V9 purchase if the new version has some of my feature requirements and the price is right.

Yeah, looked everywhere for it discounted. Could not find it. None of the JRR codes worked. But mine was only $49 because I am at 8. I'm just hoping to save on the remaining upgrade cost.

This is good to hear. I'm still thinking about it. I need to research how much free space you have to leave to run well. Regular hard drives need a certain amount and my 1TB drive was getting full. Sigh. I have too many programs.

For SSDs it's best to leave at least 10% from what I remember. But you can set the over provisioning in the software to manually hard set this permanently to ensure it has enough space for garbage collection duties.

You are correct, don't forget to over-provision, for reliable data integrity, high sustained performance and extended endurance through garbage collection (anal formula below). I have always focused on fast disc speeds, it really makes a difference for the entire PC experience, back in the day I used to run two Western-Digital Raptor 10,000 RPM HD's in a RAID Array 0 Striped, that PC was so fast it did not become outdated for over 10 years and it was a single-core CPU, but these SSD's make that look like caveman tools.

(10% is usually a safe bet if your not into the math ) as Rational said... Hardset and forget it best, and for God's Sake, never defrag!

i dont know what is going on but in Finland several vendors are selling omnisphere 2 with around 300e (around 310 dollars), also i can get keyscape 270e. Could it be that they dropped price on the boxed versions? Might be worth a shot to ask for a price from your local shop!

This Really is a conversation for another thread so I'll keep it short on my setup. I agree with the temp file use, for me to the extreme, my entire swap file is in my RAM and most of my temp files too, not only does this bring down the number of read/writes on the SSD's but it also increases the speed of my PC. RAM is cheap now so the minimum for this to work right would be 8GB but since we are GAS heads 16GB is what I would recommend for audio users like us. I have ran my system like this for over 2 years now, I leave it on 24/7 and try to reboot at least once a week without a single error. There are many tutorials on the net for SSD and DAW's, find the ones that are less than 2 years old, there have been many changes in SSD technology and many of the old tips/tricks no longer apply. FYI one of my drives is still the old style spinning disc's (4TB, really inexpensive now) that I use to store/install certain things, including all of the "\My Documents\, \My Videos\ etc..." and I also have folders for \Program Files\ and \Program Files (x86)\ these are set/created at the system level so there are never any conflicts and whenever I install a new program I just decide if its going on my SSD's or HDD
