I believe it's legit too and I really get the impression that it is most likely the same people who run VSTBuzz http://vstbuzz.com/ I did not verify this, they could just be using the same webmaster/designer but I doubt it.

I'm very happy with Vocalisa, if it's what you're after it does what is says on the tin. I don't really use Orchestral stuff but had a quick play around and it's all nicely designed and sounds good. The Marimba is nice and I'm sure I'll use it at some point. If you want a range of Orchestral Sounds, it's a great deal for the money I would say, but someone who uses Orchestral Sounds is much better placed to comment than me. I'm more likely to use them to make some Loops to chop up on an Octatrack than write a score if you see what I mean.

I've always wanted to try it. For years now. I always thought it potentially could do everything anyone would want to do to sounds eq wise. Perhaps even eliminating having to buy different plugins, EQs, mics, etc. all the time. IF it's as detailed as I hoped sound wise.

It only emulates curves. It does a very good job of emulating EQ curves but it doesn't attempt to model distortion or anything like that (which something like Nebula does). Each curve is its own preset, so you don't adjust it like a regular EQ. But if you want to copy the characteristic curve of a named EQ and have access to the original or some of the presets floating around on the web, it's a reasonable choice.

Thanks Gamma. I ended up buying Q Clone. It's been on my list too long not to for $25. (I didn't end up buying Thesys though as time ran out. But I just wasn't liking the patterns it was producing in all the demos. Maybe if they update it or I can figure out how to adjust the number of slices/speed down.)

But for Q-Clone, it seems many use it to capture quitar cab IRs, so it must be capturing at least a static distortion curve. But you're right, it's not a moveable pattern thereafter like a full EQ plugin would give. So it is limited in that respect. But from the videos I watched, it seemed to capture it very accurately. Even capturing physical outboard gear near perfectly. Hard to tell from the youtube videos though.

They even sell Q-Clone mic packs by Henry Olonga. So it can be a kind of unlimited version of mic room and other mic and channel strip emulation plugins. But you can make your own. So has some potential to copy almost anything in unlimited quantities. I'm surprised Waves ever released it as it could allow one to not have to buy a ton of separate plugins thereafter if I understand its potential correctly. Also surprised it hasn't caught on much. But then again I didn't grab it years ago either. Kind of like Nebula. Looks like it has massive unlimited potential yet I never bought into that either yet. I'm also curious how it compares to Span's curve capture feature?

Edit: Did you know that Waves was originally selling Q-Clone for $1000 bucks?! I'm reading old forum posts from back around 2006 or so when it started talking about it. That might be why it wasn't widely adopted. But now for $25, it's worth a play.

Yes, but after making those (must have been years ago) he went and sampled tons of gear for Nebula (see http://www.nebulapresets.com/Nebulapres ... preset.pdf ), sold them for a fair price for some years, then moved to Australia for family reasons and put all his Nebula stuff available for free.

Thank you so much for that great info. I guess it's finally time for me to also start getting into Nebula. Do you happen to know the most direct link for me to download all his free Nebula presets if they've been released freely? That'd be a great first starting off point. I can search, but if you happen to know that'd be helpful for me and anyone reading this hereafter. All I can find is his 'all you can eat bundle' for Nebula and Q-clone. Each 25gbp as separate packs.

But I can't tell if this is the same offerings as you were mentioning.

I also seem to remember back in the day Nebula was leveraging the Nvidia Cuda cores as a form of open source DSP? Or was I dreaming that? Did it ever get implemented or is it still do you know?

I dunno. I actually kind of like the sound of his Furia strings. They have a nice wide fat sound that can be used for quite a lot of things. Just turn down the 'width' and go for the 'close' mics for a sharper tone that'll cut through if you need that. It's not going to compete with the 8dio adagietto and agitato I just bought this week, but it's not supposed to. It can be used for these mainstream type mixes quite well I think. If you're scoring a symphony piece, then get something like 8dio Adagio, etc., with more instruments to offer and a more accurate sound for that type of thing.

Here's a video he did of an epic track and he puts it together nicely. It's all in how you use them it seems.


I wasn't as impressed with his brass offering, but then again I just bought Cinebrass Core this week and that has probably set my ears to a new standard.

I think overall you could create quite a lot with this for $99 bucks. And it will probably get you some coupons for his other offerings down the line maybe. Andrew Aversa is a solid guy and creates some solid products as far as I'm concerned. It's hard to beat $20 or less per library. You could get a lot less for 99 bucks in many other products. Overall I think it's a great value considering.
